Since its establishment in 1958, IMEKO has made substantial contributions to the advancement of measurement technology, which is indispensable for developing industry, science and technology and enhancing the quality of human life. As the president of IMEKO, I have great confidence in and respect for the Confederation for such proactive contributions, which I am sure will ever continue in close partnership with all of its member organizations. We live in a world of ever-increasing interdependency and thus of shared global challenges – the challenges of sustainable economic growth, of improving health care for all our people, of food safety and energy security, of clean accessible water, of the environmental conservation, etc. New technologies and discoveries will be essential to addressing the challenges our interconnected world is facing. The science of measurement and its applications serve as one of the most important tools that can deliver workable solutions to the global agenda. Therefore, this is a particularly vital moment for academia, researchers, and engineers to work more closely together by sharing ideas and vision on metrology than ever before. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all of the members of IMEKO and outstanding experts in metrology to take a leading role to enable enduring advancement of measurement science and technology ranging from fundamental to the cutting-edge areas. All in these efforts, I am confident that ACTA will be of great assistance by being a fresh new arena in timely sharing a lot of insightful research achievements in metrology that is essential to the growth of the IMEKO and the global metrology community as well. On behalf of IMEKO, I would like to thank Prof. Paul P. L. Regtien, Vice President for Publications and all my colleagues at IMEKO who have done their best to make the birth of ACTA possible. Last but not least, I hope that ACTA will also be instrumental to keep the global metrology community working in great harmony in days to come. Once again, I would like to express my sincere congratulations and best wishes for the everlasting success of ACTA. Here is a message from the President of IMEKO, to colleagues and readers of ACTA IMEKO from all over the world, celebrating the  publication of the first issue of the journal.
