INTRODUCTION Some people prefer to learn a new language especially English with joining some courses as they find it’s tough to acquire by themselves. But if someone has a strong wish to learn something, it will be possible and he or she can do by himself. Individual study is a learning process where each student works on their own and there is no interaction among the students, nor interrelationship of the achievements[1]. Independent learning is a method or learning process where learners have ownership and control of their learning – they learn by their own actions and direct, regulate, and assess their own learning, the independent learner is able to set goals, make choices, and decisions about how to meet his learning needs, take responsibility for constructing and carrying out his own learning, monitor his progress toward achieving his learning goals, and self-assess the learning outcomes[2]. Self-study is a powerful vehicle that can also help to renew one’s passion for teaching and consequently, self-study advances educational reform efforts in a way that is real and that will make a direct impact in the classroom[3]. 2. METHODS First of all, every student identifies his or her certain level in English which can be beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate or advanced (in some cases advanced learners do not need to learn language because they have enough knowledge) and their learning types. Visual (they prefer to take in information using charts, maps, graphs, diagrams, and more. Using images to explain concepts and ideas is the best way to reach a visual learner), Auditory (this learning style describes students who learn best when information is heard or spoken. They benefit from lectures, group discussion, and other strategies that involve talking things through), Kinaesthetic learners (learn best when they can use tactile experiences and carry out a physical activity to practice applying new information)[4] by focusing in this category leads to be the learning process easier. Naturally, the question may arises that how to find out an exact level? This can be found out by taking a test on the Cambridge official website. Although this resource is not 100% accurate, but it can assess general knowledge. After that, they need to determine their goals and establish proper plan and discipline which takes to be followed regularly. Learners should immerse themselves in English such as in watching a film, cartoon or any kind of video, listening to music or podcasts, speaking with friends, acquaintances and thinking only in English at their own levels. In addition, watching English cartoons and films can enhance your listening skills, expand your vocabulary, and improve general language comprehension, however, you must find the most suitable option to achieve the best results[5]. For example, “The Jungle Book”, “Finding Nemo”, “Casper”, “Up”, “The Man Called Flintstone” for beginners, “The Lion King”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Holiday”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding “ for elementary learners, “Harry Potter” series, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”, “Cast Away”, “Toy Story”, “Shrek” for intermediate level, “500 Days of Summer”, “The Hunger Games”, “The Matrix”, “Forrest Gump” for upper intermediate. Next stage is reading every day articles (for beginners it will be short stories), which is the main source in learning process. The articles to be read should also be chosen according to the level and widely variety of topics with strong topic vocabularies . As everyone’s know in IELTS and other any kind of exams, questions will be about different topics like colours, chocolate, hometown, dream and etc. After reading one article, it helps to be able to write essays and do speaking practices in that particular topic, this is much better than trying to memorize all sample answers. In speaking skills they need to join some free speaking clubs to practice. When reaching at least intermediate level, it will not be too difficult to acquire knowledge. Process should be taken easy and attractive with some coffee and favourite dessert or with reading favourite book in English version. When it comes to spending time, students who want to learn English by self- study must give some hours to study. Zero to A1- 100-150 hours, for A2- 200-300 hours, for B1-300-500 hours, for B2- 500-700 hours, for C1- 700-950 hours, for C2- 900-1200 hours overall[6]. Finally, mock exams should also be taken offline every week to know how much their level improve. 3. RESULTS The above information is not only for getting IELTS and other certificates, but also for complete English language learning. By following these strategies, you begin to love the language and can easily reach from A1 to C1 level within 1- 2 years. Moreover, during independent learners practice with their peers, communication skills can be improved while their other skills will be strengthened. Also, it can lead to the exchange of ideas with each other via peer-to-peer learning process. And of course, by mastering the English, which is considered the world language, students can improve their experience by participating in variety of international internships, volunteering and other such programs. It may bring opportunity them in their future careers and getting a well-paid job. 4. DISCUSSION When we have learned the basics, it can be difficult to notice proficiency without taking tests. The thing is, no matter how proficient we think we are with English already, we won’t exactly know much we’ve improved or where we currently stand without taking an English proficiency. Furthermore, if we are not consistent with learning English, all our efforts go to waste. Consistency key when it comes to mastering English, perhaps even more so than any other skill, while putting in effort goes a long way when studying how to read, write, speak, and listen in English, if that effort is not met with consistency, then our pursuit of learning English may already be in vain[7]. However, nowadays some of teachers teach students English very long period because of financial income. Exactly, in this situation students are not able to find reliable teacher. 5. CONCLUSION To conclude, some people find independent English learning a difficult process, while others find it enjoyable. It all depends on each person's desire and ability to overcome laziness. Make it attractive – if the habit is unattractive we likely will not have enough willpower to do it over and over, therefore, you should come up with some ways to make the habit attractive even if it’s 357 Journal of Language, Literacy and Learning in STEM Education www. grnjournal.us something hard like going to a gym or studying for long hours[8]. By involve in English learning is the best way via cartoons, films, podcasts, music, reading articles and so on. It takes less time than attend to learning centres.
