Introduction The landscape of education has witnessed a dramatic shift with the advent of modern technology. This revolution has reached the realm of English language teaching, offering unprecedented opportunities to enhance learning experiences and facilitate effective language acquisition. This article explores the multifaceted role of technology in ELT, highlighting its impact on vocabulary acquisition, grammar comprehension, pronunciation practice, cultural immersion, and student engagement. Technology has been used to both help and improve language learning. Technology enables teachers to adapt classroom activities, thus enhancing the language learning process. Technology continues to grow in importance as a tool to help teachers facilitate language learning for their learners. Main Part Thanks to the advancements in technology, educators and learners of English can now access a multitude of online resources. Numerous websites, including BBC English, VOA English, Ke Ke English, and others, are available for English education and are updated daily. Instructors can make excellent teaching resources out of the information they provide. Teachers can find or download instructional materials straight from their technological device by using the internet. For instance, interactive whiteboards come with a variety of digital teaching resources that teachers can use immediately or to create customized lesson plans and course materials. Additionally, the majority of interactive whiteboards come with interactive textbooks that include videos, audio, hyperlinks, and additional materials, which save teachers time when planning lessons. In addition, there are a ton of online courses available on YouTube, TEDx Talks, iTunes U, and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Students can use them to improve their English listening abilities in addition to expanding their horizons by using them to experience linguistic culture, which is crucial for language learning. Test-oriented teaching methods, which are conventional one-way teaching methods, have been the hallmark of English teaching methods in many nations for a long time. Memorization is the process by which words, expressions, and collocations are acquired; this adds significantly to the learning load. These days, English teachers employ technology to help students learn the language. This gives students access to rich resources and more possibilities to experience a foreign culture, which increases students' enthusiasm in studying and, ultimately, changes their attitudes toward learning the language. Any technology that obtains, transfers, restores, processes, and distributes information using computers and contemporary communication methods is considered modern technology. In terms of teaching English, classrooms today employ cutting- edge tools like computers and networks to teach students about composition, literature, decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, usage, punctuation, capitalization, brainstorming, planning, reasoning, outlining, using references, study skills, rhetoric, handwriting, drama, and all other language arts subjects. Numerous recent investigations have demonstrated that contemporary technologies can enhance English teaching and learning. In general, modern technology can benefit English teaching and learning in several ways. Language Learning Apps. Apps like Duolingo, Babbel, Memrise, and Rosetta Stone provide structured lessons, gamified learning, and personalized practice for vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and listening comprehension. These platforms cater to individual learning styles and progress, making learning more engaging and effective. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Immersive VR and AR experiences transport learners to virtual English-speaking environments, offering realistic scenarios for practicing language skills in a safe and controlled setting. This technology fosters a deeper understanding of cultural nuances and allows for authentic communication practice. Blogging. Class blogs provide great forums for students to practice their writing skills. Live Journal, Edu blog and Blogger allow you to create blogs for free. One of the reasons that students find blogging appealing is that it is more of an authentic writing experience, as a wider audience typically has access to read posted entries, which means students tend to put more effort into their blogs. Teachers can get students to write about specific topics that they find interesting, or students can provide commentary on current events and social justice issues. The more they practice their writing skills, the more proficient they become, so regular blogging (weekly or daily) is recommended. Blogs also provide good opportunities for family members to see what their children are working on in class! Interactive Whiteboards. These dynamic tools allow for interactive presentations, collaborative activities, and real-time feedback, transforming classrooms into stimulating learning environments. They encourage active participation, promote critical thinking, and enhance the overall learning experience. Multimedia Resources, Online Dictionaries and Translation Tools. Resources like Google Translate and Merriam-Webster Dictionary provide instant definitions, synonyms, and translations, empowering students to independently expand their vocabulary. These tools offer quick access to information, fostering self-reliance and promoting independent learning. Video Streaming Platforms. Access to platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming services exposes students to authentic English language content, including movies, TV shows, and documentaries. This allows them to learn natural language patterns, understand cultural references, and develop listening comprehension skills. Podcasts. Podcasts offer a convenient and engaging way for students to engage with spoken English. They provide access to various topics, expose learners to different accents, and promote active listening skills. Adaptive Learning Platforms. Platforms like Khan Academy and Coursera offer personalized learning paths tailored to individual student needs and progress. Learning English can be very difficult and frustrating at times. Apps on iPads and tablets are great ways for students to practice English and have fun while doing it. For practicing grammar rules, apps like Grammar Up allow students to test their knowledge on specific topics (verbs, prepositions, etc.). The app also keeps track of students' progress and allows them to skip questions by shaking the tablet. Students can also play classic games like Scrabble and Boggle on mobile devices. On the other hand, there are some challenges in using modern technologies in English classroom. 1. Digital Literacy: Educators need to equip students with the necessary digital skills to effectively utilize these tools. 3. In a flipped classroom, teachers can assign movies or other instructional resources to students via email. Pupils are free to see the films and study the course materials at their own speed. Users are able to rewind, fast-forward, and replay the videos as needed. For students who are less knowledgeable, this is useful. They have the ability to repeatedly listen to a teacher's lecture, something that is not possible in a regular classroom. Technology-assisted learning is helpful, especially for students who are unable to attend class. Additionally, there are a variety of Apps available for download on phones. Depending on their needs, students can utilize them to study English grammar or vocabulary.
