This article explores the importance of chess in enhancing students' creativity in the educational process. Playing chess develops problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and unconventional approaches. Studies show that chess lessons not only foster creative thinking but also strengthen students' logical and critical thinking abilities. Incorporating chess into school curricula serves to enhance both intellectual potential and creative abilities. Future research is encouraged to further investigate the effects of chess on different age groups and educational levels to expand knowledge in this field. Introduction Chess is not only a tool for intellectual development but also plays a significant role in fostering creative thinking. This game requires decision-making in complex situations, which promotes innovative approaches. This article focuses on the impact of chess on students' creativity in the educational process. Chess, one of humanity's oldest and most popular games, impacts not only sports and logical thinking but also significantly contributes to the development of creative potential. The game involves strategic thinking, analyzing multi-step scenarios, and planning ahead. These processes enhance students' intellectual capabilities and help them develop creative thinking skills. Materials and Methods This study utilized the following methodology: 1. Participants: The study involved 60 students aged 10-12, divided into two groups: a chess- learning group and a control group. 2. Method: The Guilford Creativity Test was used to measure students' creative thinking levels. The test was conducted before and after six months of chess lessons. 3. Conditions: Chess lessons were held twice a week for 1.5 hours. The lessons covered basic rules, strategies, and combinations in chess. 4. Data Analysis: Results were analyzed statistically using t-tests. Results The study revealed significant improvements in creativity measures (fluency, flexibility, originality) among students in the chess group: 170 AMERICAN Journal of Language, Literacy and Learning in STEM Education www. grnjournal.us ➢ Fluency (idea generation): Increased by 25% in the chess group (p < 0.01). ➢ Flexibility (adaptability): Improved by 18% (p < 0.05). ➢ Originality: The chess group outperformed the control group by 30% (p < 0.01). No significant changes in creativity were observed in the control group. Discussion The significance of incorporating chess into education has been increasingly supported by scientific studies. Research indicates that children and adolescents who play chess often excel in logical reasoning, problem-solving, and finding unconventional solutions. Chess positively influences creative thinking through the following aspects: 1. Developing Problem-Solving Skills Analyzing various situations on the chessboard and finding optimal moves requires creativity. Each move is part of a decision-making chain that opens new opportunities for long-term strategies. 2. Enhancing Independent Decision-Making The ability to foresee the consequences of each move is crucial in chess. Players must independently evaluate their thoughts and create new ideas through innovative approaches, fostering self-reliance in decision-making. 3. Creating a Creative Environment Chess expands imagination, allowing players to test new combinations during each move. This skill is not only essential for effective gameplay but also beneficial for developing innovative approaches in broader contexts. 4. Improving Concentration and Patience Chess requires focused attention and patience to study situations, laying the groundwork for creative thinking. Concentration during each move directly influences the creative process. Integrating chess into education enhances not only students' creativity but also their intellectual and social development. The game encourages innovative approaches to challenging situations, a vital skill in the modern world. Therefore, integrating chess into the education system is an effective way to develop creative thinking. Conclusion The positive impact of chess on the development of creative thinking in the educational process has been confirmed. Integrating chess lessons into school curricula not only supports the intellectual growth of students but also helps to cultivate their creative thinking skills. Research shows that chess enhances a range of essential abilities, including logical analysis, problem-solving, and creativity. Through playing chess, students broaden their thinking horizons by developing strategies, making decisions in challenging situations, and analyzing outcomes. However, further research is required to gain a deeper understanding of the role and impact of chess in the educational process. Specifically, it is necessary to study the effects of chess on different age groups and educational stages, as well as its integration into curricula across various subjects. Additionally, the influence of chess on other skills, such as communication abilities, teamwork, and stress management, deserves special attention.
