LITERATURE REVIEW
In the realm of parenting special needs children, examining
existing literature reveals a multifaceted landscape marked
by challenges and potential solutions. Numerous studies
underscore the prevalence of developmental disabilities
and specifi c healthcare needs among children; emphasize
the necessity for tailored approaches to parenting (CDC,
2021). The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP)
advocates for a family-cantered care model, recognizing
the pivotal role of parents in promoting the overall well-
being of children with special needs (AAP, 2018).
Research consistently emphasizes parental involvement’s
positive impact on special needs children’s developmental
outcomes. For instance, studies by Smith et al. (2019)
underscore the correlation between a supportive home
environment and enhanced adaptive functioning in
children with developmental disabilities. This reinforces
the notion that parents play a crucial role in creating a
nurturing atmosphere that fosters the holistic growth of
their children.
However, despite the information available, a critical gap
exists in the literature regarding comprehensive guidance

The seminal work of Guralnick (2019) delves into the
importance of early intervention for children with
developmental disabilities, emphasizing the long-term
benefi ts of targeted support in enhancing cognitive
and social outcomes. Guralnick’s research underscores
parents’ critical role in facilitating and sustaining these
interventions, reinforcing the need for a collaborative and
informed parenting approach.
A study by Robertson and Hatton (2020) contributes
valuable insights into the challenges faced by families
raising children with intellectual disabilities. Their
fi ndings shed light on the emotional and practical
hurdles encountered by parents, highlighting the need
for comprehensive guidance that addresses both the
psychological and logistical aspects of caregiving.
The exploration of communication dynamics in families
with special needs children is enriched by the work of
Dunn et al. (2018). Their research underscores the
signifi cance of effective communication strategies within
the family unit, emphasizing its positive correlation with
improved adaptive behaviours in children with autism
spectrum disorders. This underscores the importance of
fostering clear and supportive communication channels
as an integral component of parenting special needs
children.
In the context of healthcare management for special needs
children, the research by Williams et al. (2021) provides
valuable insights into parents’ experiences navigating the
healthcare system. Understanding the challenges faced by
parents in accessing and coordinating healthcare services
is crucial for developing targeted interventions and
support mechanisms.
These cited works collectively contribute to the foundation
of our literature review, offering a nuanced understanding
