The translation process is complex and multifaceted, and it plays an important role in language and intercultural communication. The article examines different types of translation strategies, including literal, adaptive, and contextual approaches. The advantages and disadvantages of each strategy are analyzed, as well as their impact on the target audience. The article also presents criteria used to assess translation effectiveness, such as accuracy, originality, and cultural adaptation. The authors demonstrate how different strategies are used in real life through practical examples. As a result, the article provides important recommendations for identifying and developing effective approaches in the field of translation. This study will serve as a valuable resource not only for translators, but also for linguists and cultural scholars. Keywords: Translation strategies, translation process, language and culture, literal translation, adaptive translation, contextual approach, translation effectiveness, impact assessment, originality. INTRODUCTION The translation process is an important part of linguistic and intercultural communication, which requires not only the transfer of words from one language to another, but also the preservation of meaning, nuance and context. Translation strategies refer to the approaches and methodologies used in this process. Their effectiveness and impact are among the main factors determining the quality of a translation. Each strategy has its own advantages and limitations and may differ in different contexts. This article examines the process of evaluating translation strategies and the criteria needed to determine their impact. Translation effectiveness is related to aspects such as its suitability for the needs of the target audience, its consideration of cultural contexts and its preservation of originality. Evaluating the impact of translation strategies is important not only for translators, but also for language learners and all those involved in intercultural communication. This article is devoted to examining the complexity of the translation process and what approaches exist to improve its effectiveness. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Analyzing translated texts is done by studying their meaning, context, and cultural nuances. Surveys can be conducted to obtain audience opinions to evaluate the effectiveness of translation results and strategies. This method allows for a wider range of data to be collected. Statistical indicators, such as error rates or reader satisfaction, can be used to assess translation quality. 32 Journal of Public Diplomacy and International Studies www. grnjournal.us Comparing texts created using different translation strategies to determine their effectiveness. This method helps to see what changes occur during the translation process. Comparing texts using different strategies (e.g. literal translation, free translation) to determine their impact and uniqueness. DISCUSSION The concept of translation strategies has been widely studied in translation studies, and it is necessary to review the history of its development. Vinay and Darbelnet (1958) conducted the first systematic research on translation strategies and proposed such basic strategies as “direct translation” and “comparative translation”. Later, Nida (1964) put forward the concepts of “formal equivalence” and “dynamic equivalence”, which became the basis for much subsequent research. House (1977, 1997) developed a model for assessing translation quality, which includes linguistic and pragmatic parameters for evaluating translated texts. Reiss and Vermeer (1984) developed the “skopos theory”, according to which translation strategies should be determined by the function and purpose of the target text. [1] The seven translation strategies proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet – borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation – are still widely used and studied in the field of translation studies. Newmark (1988) divided translation strategies into two categories: semantic and communicative translations. Venuti (1995) proposed the strategies of “assimilation” and “alienation”, which required considering translation strategies from a cultural and ideological perspective. In recent years, Baker (1992, 2011) developed a corpus-based approach to evaluating translation strategies. Chesterman (1997) divided translation strategies into syntactic, semantic and pragmatic strategies. Regarding the issue of evaluating the effectiveness of translation strategies, this field is still developing. House (1997, 2015) is updating the model for evaluating translation quality, which aims to find a balance between linguistic information and pragmatic goals. Toury (1995, 2012) developed the concept of translation norms, which allows translation strategies to be evaluated according to their acceptance in the target language culture. [2] The concept of translation strategies is central to translation theory. Strategies are methods and techniques that translators consciously or unconsciously employ. They are used to solve linguistic, cultural, and pragmatic problems that arise during the translation process. Translation strategies are often used to overcome difficulties that arise during the translation process. For example, when concepts in the source text are not available in the target language, the translator needs to use a specific strategy (e.g., explanation, borrowing, or cultural adaptation). Translation strategies can be considered at the macro and micro levels. Macro strategies involve general approaches that are applied to the entire text (e.g., staying faithful to the source text or adapting to the culture of the target language). Micro strategies are methods that are used to work with individual linguistic elements (e.g., metaphor translation, pun translation, etc.). [3] The concept of equivalence in translation theory is a topic that has caused much debate. Equivalence is the degree of similarity between the original text and the translated text. Equivalence can be expressed at different levels: word level, sentence level, text level, pragmatic and functional level. Nida's concepts of "formal equivalence" and "dynamic equivalence" indicate different aspects of equivalence. While formal equivalence aims to preserve the linguistic elements of the original text in the target language, dynamic equivalence aims to create the same effect between readers of the original text and readers of the translated text. Baker (1992) considers equivalence at the word level, grammatical level, text level and pragmatic level. He analyzes the strategies used to achieve equivalence at different levels. The concept of equivalence is important in choosing translation strategies. Depending on which type of equivalence the translator prioritizes, he can use different strategies. For example, in literary translation, pragmatic and aesthetic equivalence is often prioritized, while in scientific and technical translation, terminological and substantive equivalence is important. [4] 33 Journal of Public Diplomacy and International Studies www. grnjournal.us RESULTS Linguistic parameters include grammatical accuracy, lexical consistency, stylistic consistency, and text coherence of the translation text. These parameters allow us to assess the effectiveness of the translation text from a linguistic point of view. According to the results of the study, communicative translation and free translation strategies received the highest scores in linguistic parameters. Word-for-word translation often leads to awkward and unnatural grammatical constructions, which reduces its score in linguistic parameters. In terms of lexical consistency, word-for-word translation and communicative translation strategies showed good results. Free translation and adaptation strategies, on the other hand, sometimes achieve naturalness in the target language at the expense of losing lexical elements in the original text. In terms of stylistic consistency and text coherence, the communicative translation strategy is considered the most effective, since it is aimed at creating a fluent and coherent text in the target language while preserving the style of the original text. Pragmatic parameters include aspects of the translated text such as achieving the communicative purpose, suitability for the target audience, transmission of cultural elements, and preservation of the text function. Adaptation and communicative translation strategies received the highest scores in pragmatic parameters. These strategies are aimed at preserving the communicative purpose of the text, taking into account the cultural and pragmatic context of the target audience. Literal translation received the lowest scores in pragmatic parameters, as it often fails to fully transmit the pragmatic function of the original text to the target language readers. In terms of transmission of cultural elements, the adaptation strategy is the most effective, as it adapts the culturally specific concepts in the original text to the culture of the target language. However, this is done at the expense of losing the cultural identity of the original text. [5] Functional parameters include aspects of the translated text such as the realization of the text purpose, the effectiveness of practical application, and the level of understanding of the reader/listener. According to the results of the study, communicative translation and adaptation strategies scored the highest on functional parameters. These strategies aimed at preserving the function of the text and creating a text that is understandable and effective for the target audience. Literal translation scored average on functional parameters. This strategy may be functionally effective for some text types (e.g. scientific and technical texts), but is less effective for other text types (e.g. fiction). Free translation showed good results on functional parameters, as it aims to create a text that is understandable and natural for the target language readers. However, this strategy may lose some functional aspects of the original text. Literal translation is considered the least effective, as it produces awkward and unnatural sentences in Uzbek. Adaptation strategies change the cultural context of the original text, which may not be in line with the original author's intention. Free translation, on the other hand, loses some elements of the original text, but creates a fluent text in Uzbek. In literary translation, factors such as the genre, style, target audience, and purpose of the translation should be taken into account when choosing the most effective strategy. Communicative translation is often a balanced solution, as it aims to create a text that is understandable and effective for readers of the target language while preserving the content and style of the original text. [6] CONCLUSION The process of evaluating translation strategies is important in improving translation quality and promoting cultural exchange by studying their impact and effectiveness. Each translation strategy has its own unique impact, which requires taking into account the specific characteristics of the language and culture. When the right strategy is chosen, the meaning and context of the text are better reflected. The efficiency of the translation process is related to speed and quality. A well-chosen strategy can speed up the translation process and provide high- quality results. Translation strategies need to be adapted to different contexts. The translator's experience and cultural knowledge play an important role in this process. Modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, help make the translation process more 34 Journal of Public Diplomacy and International Studies www. grnjournal.us efficient. However, it is also important to take into account human thinking and cultural context. Clear criteria should be developed to evaluate the effectiveness of translation strategies. These criteria include quality, accuracy, speed, and audience satisfaction. In general, the process of evaluating translation strategies is important not only from a theoretical but also from a practical point of view. This process serves to improve translation quality, foster cultural exchange, and improve global communication. REFERENCES: 1. Abdullayeva, F. (2018). Tarjima nazariyasi va amaliyoti.
