Anthropology of East Europe Review EDITORS NOTES: Robert Rotenberg DePaul University First, I want to thank Nelson Hancock for organizing the "Views from Within: Ethnographic Perspective on Post-Communist Culture and Society" papers from last February's SOYUZ conference in New York. I also want to thank Nancy Ries for editing this issue and creating a good balance between the topics of the SOYUZ conference and the regular contributions. Andre Simic's review of Gordy's book last Spring engendered spirited responses from Bob Hayden, MiIjana Prosic-Dvornic, Joel Halpern and Eric Gordy. The editors are pleased to offer the journal as a forum for debate such as this. I am pleased to welcome Barbara West to our group ofd dedicated editors. Barb will be pulling together the Spring issue. We have several submissions in the folder already, but If you have a paper that you want to share with colleagues please send it to her or to me. Thesubscription price of this journal has not changed in the seven years that I have been editor. We remain the best bargain in town. Our institutional subscriptions grow every year. Still, we are losing money. It takes almost $4000 to publish and mail the jounral. We collect only about $2600 per year in dues and sibscriptions. The rest is made up by DePaul University. We need to find a more solid financial footing or risk losing the publication. As we do every year, we will discuss this financial issue at this year's business meeting of the EEAG (November 16 at noon at the San Francisco Hilton during the AAA meetings). A letter from me in December will let you know what we decide. My apologies for being late with putting vol. 16 and 17 on the archive web site. The reformating will be complete in the next two months. On the other hand, the server that made it possible to see who is a member or to find he email addresses of those members who want their addresses available is on the technician's bench awaiting a new hard drtive.
