ARESTY RUTGERS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

Welcome to the fifth issue of the Aresty Rutgers Undergraduate Research Journal! We’re proud to 

present the diverse research of bright minds from the Rutgers undergraduate community. Their 

work focuses on everything from classifying different eras of Fall Out Boy using logistical regression, 

to determining the impact of DNA analysis on Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation, to 

designing antimicrobial peptides for activity against P. aeruginosa infections – and more, all of which 

can be found in this issue. The Aresty RURJ is incredibly proud to showcase these students’ 

achievements in pushing the frontiers of research in the sciences and humanities through their 

writing and is eager to see what they achieve next. 

 

Like all other issues before it, there were many challenges faced and overcome during the creation 

of this issue. This issue marks the milestone fifth anniversary of the Aresty RURJ, and although this 

journal has progressed greatly over the past five years, there remains vast room for growth. The 

Aresty RURJ continues to undergo evolution at every stage of the process, just like every manuscript 

submitted to us. We endeavor to increase our outreach to the Rutgers undergraduate research 

community, while also working to improve our internal processes and procedures. We are confident 

that the Aresty RURJ will continue to grow and work to represent the research done by 

undergraduate students across Rutgers. 

 

I must acknowledge and thank the entire team whose efforts and commitment were critical to the 

Aresty RURJ and in the making of this issue. To the editorial team, the Reviewer Program Director, 

Managing Director, and Chief Copy Editor, thank you for going above and beyond in helping to run 

the entirety of the Aresty RURJ and all the responsibilities that entailed. Thank you to the faculty and 

staff at the Aresty Research Center and Rutgers Libraries for their helpful mentoring and guidance 

throughout the past year. And lastly, to our all our reviewers and copy editors – thank you. Without 

you devoting your time and effort to reading, reviewing, editing, and making sure that the papers in 

this issue were this refined, the continued success of the Aresty RURJ would be impossible. Whether 

you’re an undergraduate student, graduate student, or faculty member, your work was crucial to the 

reviewing, editing, and publication process. 

 

We hope you continue to follow our journey as we work to showcase the fascinating and cross-

disciplinary worlds of undergraduate research hosted across Rutgers. Thank you for reading!
