I am from the gardens that weren’t that good. (Maybe because too much sun, or because of the devil cats.) I am from the big old oak tree, the spikey bush that would always spike you if you went through there. I am from pan dulce and Christmas Reunions, from José and Belén and from the Toledo’s and the Orozco’s. I am from the hard-working people and the si Dios quiere. From ¡no seas huevón! and primero Dios. I am from church each week no matter how you felt or if you were sleepy. I am from the hills of Jalisco and the San Antonio heat, from frijoles and tacos. From the parent that crossed the border for a better life, and the mom that worked for an education. I am from the walls that have every picture that reveal all the memories that you can see at any time, of the past to the present of lots of Familia.
