They will be filling the archivist role in the coming year. • ULS has elected its new president, the Rev. Dr. Guy Erwin, current bishop of the Southwestern California Synod of the ELCA. His term begins August 1, 2020. • Multiple digital collections are about to go live. • An ArchivesSpace instance has been installed and finding aids are slowly being added. • Fall 2020 will be offered online fully. 44 A NNUA L Y E A RBOOK Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary • New library catalog for LTSS and ULS went live in Summer 2019. • Two faculty retirements and a new professor of Lutheran stud- ies has been hired for one of the openings. • Sandy Leach is retiring on June 30, 2020, and the hiring process is going smoothly. • Still planning for fall (in person, online, etc.). Wartburg Theological Seminary • President resigned in December 2020. An interim is in place and Wartburg is currently searching for a replacement. • Two new faculty hires in systematic theology and liturgical studies. • Most students were already online; it was not a major transition when COVID-19 forced everyone online. • Have not yet made a decision about residential classes this fall. Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University • Been closed since mid-March for COVID-19. • Nothing has yet been announced about fall classes yet. • Had a failed search for new president of Capital University. A two-year interim will be in place. • Trinity has hired a Bible professor. • Capital University libraries do not have a director at this time. The libraries are currently down two librarians. JKM Library Trust • Library Director search has been placed on hold. • McCormick is online all fall. LSTC has the possibility of small, in-person classes, but most will be online. Denominational Group Meetings 45 Concordia Seminary—St. Louis (notes from Robert Roethemeyer) • Ben Haupt, library director since 2013, has been moved into the associate provost of the seminary position. • Paul Robinson, a member of the history faculty, has been moved into the library director position. • Concordia Seminary will have an interim president. Concordia Theological Seminary—Fort Wayne • Have been online since mid-March, though staff in the library have continued to come in. • Book pick-up and drop-off services have been active. Also scan- ning of articles and reference materials. • Reference services have been online with Google Meet. • Face-to-face instruction resumed on June 1. • Late-March HLC and ATS accreditation visits are rescheduled to late October. • Robert Smith developed a 50-page, 5-year bibliography for Luther-Jahrbuch. • Digitized 40 linear feet of audio cassettes recorded at CTSFW. Slowly adding to the Seminary’s digital repository. Emory University • Closed to the public for the time being. Fall is not yet decided. • Emory is getting a new president in August—Gregory Fenves from University of Texas at Austin. • Candler School of Theology dean Jan Love is interim provost of the University, but will resume her position as dean of the semi- nary once the provost position is filled. • Annual Reformation celebration will be online. • Kessler Research Fellowship—three the next school year (though not on campus). mailto:http://pitts.emory.edu/research/kesslerfellows/2021Fellows.cfm?subject= 46 A NNUA L Y E A RBOOK OTHER NEWS Lutheran Historians & Archivists Conference • Back in November 2019, a gathering of scholars of Lutheran history and archivists of Lutheran collections (LCMS, ELCA, WELS, and a few smaller Lutheran denominations represented). • Table conversations were a great opportunity to get historians to meet archivists and archivists to meet historians (learning how each works). • One thing folks learned was the strong desire from historians for greater electronic access to serials. CTS-FW has all LCMS publications since 1930 digitized for the public (except Concor- dia Journal). • A summary of the event was shared on the Atla Lutherans list- serv by Robert Roethemeyer.
