ITLE’s charge is “to strengthen and connect theological and religious studies librarians worldwide by identifying resources, creating educational opportunities, and developing skill enhance- ment materials through collaboration efforts.” The second volume of The Theological Librarian’s Handbook: Administration in Theological Libraries is to be published by the end of summer. An editor of the third volume of the series focusing on collection development was selected. After placing a call for papers, Committee & Task Force Reports 11 the editor has selected the authors, and the initial writing of the volume is commencing. After compiling the worldwide theological librarianship training and education opportunities and a list of global theological library associations, two taskforce members placed this information into Atla’s LibGuides, so that the information is available open access. After receiving the International Federation of Library Associa- tion (IFLA) workgroup’s global librarian competencies, the task force engaged the question of creating international base competencies for theological librarians. After utilizing competencies from the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) and the 2014 Atla competencies, the task force decided that developing global theo- logical librarian competencies were outside the task force’s scope. In light of that decision, the task force decided to focus on support- ing, sharing, and promoting the already existing numerous global programs for training theological librarians and to focus on existing professional development opportunities created by Atla incorporat- ing the institute held several years ago.
