Editorial This issue marks the first issue of Volume 8. I believe that the interest shown in communicating to other professionals, researchers and practitioners is extremely exciting. In this issue we have a couple of papers from first time contributors and we would like to encourage others to share the work you are doing in a similar way The structure of this issue focuses on all aspects of the work of those who are concerned with technologies of learning. In the next issue we hope to encourage some students who are developing their expertise in the areas of learning and performance technologies to submit their work for evaluation. I hope that the papers will also encourage others to suggest other methods and methodologies, even to argue about the best practice. As this issue goes to press, it is sad to note that the premier educational television unit in Australia has just been disbanded. The work of Andrew Greig and his enthusiastic and award-winning team at the University of Sydney will live in the superb programs they have entered in the ASET awards over the years. I hope that something focussed on the new technologies of learning will still be encouraged at that University. Current future scenarios certainly seems to indicate that the work of AIET subscribers is important to the emerging methods of multimedia learning.
