Paper title (Paper Title style) Australasian Journal of Information Systems Lamp 2017, Vol 21 Editorial 1 Editorial John Lamp AJIS Editor-in-Chief Deakin Business School Deakin University The past year, 2016, has been one of recognition and emerging maturity. AJIS is now listed in Cabell’s International Directory, and indexed by German and Korean language search engines, as well as other English language indices, such as Thomson Reuters’ Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). There are current negotiations for addition to China’s CKNI Chinese language service. A full list is available on the AJIS website. AJIS has also been awarded the Directory of Open Access Journals Seal for best Open Access publishing practice. Thirteen general research articles were published in 2016, plus special sections on  Design Research for Decision Support Systems Development  Research on Rural and Remote ICT  Selected Papers from the Information Systems Foundations Conference (ISF) Ten Post-Publication Reviews were published. These reviews were well received and in one instance that I have been told about, resulted in a new joint research project being established with the existing team plus the reviewer. This is an excellent development by any measure. The most significant news is that the AJIS h-index has increased from 30 to 32 over 2016. This reflects a greater rate of citation of AJIS articles. Hopefully this is being driven by our increasing visibility and quality of authorship. Our readership continues to grow (Figure 1) with most now discovering our material through Google Scholar or Cabell’s International Directory. Figure 1: AJIS readership Our greater visibility is resulting in an increasing number of papers being submitted. In 2016, 154 papers were submitted. It is worth reflecting on what that means in an organisational sense. The most significant issue is that this creates a demand for 154 Section Editors and 463 reviewers. It goes without saying that AJIS owes a huge debt to those colleagues who volunteer, especially those taking on the editorship of special sections. I would encourage new PhD students in particular to become reviewers as that is, in my view, the best way to get an idea of standards of papers being submitted, and the degree of development they go through before publishing.
