Research on College English Teaching Under the Background 
of "Internet +"

Abstract. In the Internet era, the development of information education has been inseparable from 
multimedia, communication technology, network platform and modern educational auxiliary tools. 
With the popularization of the Internet, the traditional teaching concepts and teaching methods of 
college English class are gradually changed. Compared with traditional classroom teaching, how 
college teachers update their teaching concepts under the background of the Internet and complete 
the transformation from traditional teaching methods to modern teaching methods is not only of great 
significance to teachers themselves, but also greatly promotes the improvement of students' English 
ability.

1. The challenges of College English teaching under the background of Internet 

1.1 Technical challenges to teachers 
Due to the rapid development of China's economy and the increasing improvement of science and 

technology, the use of multimedia teaching and advanced Internet technology in college English 
teaching has gradually been popularized and promoted in English classroom. However, in the actual 
teaching process, it can be found that some older teachers are not proficient in the use of multimedia 
and Internet technology in the teaching process due to the influence of the traditional teaching mode 
and concept. The use of Internet teaching equipment can not only effectively improve students' 
learning efficiency, but also help teachers improve the corresponding teaching content, which is a 
beneficial supplement to traditional teaching methods. Therefore, colleges and universities should 
also train these older teachers in multimedia technology to help them master the new teaching mode 
and adapt to the development of The Times. 

1.2 Challenges to teachers' professionalism 
On the other hand, students lack of interest in learning. In our current teaching system, college 

teachers mechanically copy things in teaching, so students will naturally feel tired both physically 
and mentally.In order to make students are interested in our English teaching more, improve the 
comprehensive strength of the students and the learning ability of students, some teachers using 
Internet + teaching in college English teaching, and on this basis, offers a variety of mobile platforms, 
using the new way of education is to improve the classroom tension, create a vibrant classroom 
teaching, These teaching objectives are also the foundation of our college English education.However, 
in the process of using Internet to learn, some teachers lack innovation in teaching content and are 
unable to combine theory with practice, which makes it difficult to stimulate students' interest in 
learning, and the natural teaching efficiency is also conceivable. 

2. The opportunity of College English teaching under the background of 
Internet 

2.1 Opportunities for students 
At present, many English teachers in colleges and universities are older, so they use traditional 

English teaching methods in the process of Carrying out English teaching.In the traditional English 
class, teachers occupy the dominant position in the class, so that students are forced to learn English

knowledge, which is difficult to mobilize students' interest in the process of English learning, thus 
reducing students' learning efficiency in English class.Therefore, it is not difficult to find that the 
traditional English teaching method seriously limits the development of students' 
personality.However, in the context of the rapid development of the Internet, it can not only make 
English teaching in a fully open state, but also effectively enrich the content of efficient English 
classroom learning.In addition, Internet technology can also effectively promote the frequency of 
academic communication between students and teachers. The Internet is a mobile learning platform 
that provides students with better quality learning resources and more learning space. 

2.2 Opportunities for teachers 
At present, many college teachers teach according to their own courseware in the process of 

teaching, which seriously restricts the development of efficient English classroom.Therefore, it is 
necessary for college English teachers to innovate and reform the teaching methods of English 
classroom.As teachers are not only knowledge imitators, but also users of new teaching methods in 
the process of Carrying out English classes, it is required that college English teachers should 
implement new teaching methods in place in the process of carrying out English classes, so as to 
promote the reform of College English education methods. 

2.3 opportunities to share teaching resources 
The application of Internet technology in English teaching can promote the maximum sharing of 

teachers' resources.Internet technology provides students with an open learning environment, so 
teaching resources can be used to the maximum extent.In addition, English teachers can use the help 
of some English apps in the process of teaching. By letting students download them to their mobile 
phones or computers to learn English anytime and anywhere, it can effectively improve the efficiency 
of college students' English learning. 

3. Strategies for College English Teaching under the background of "Internet 
plus" 

Grasp clearly the significance of college English teaching under the background of "Internet +", 
facing the problems in college English teaching under the background of "Internet +", we should 
make some adjustments as soon as possible to improve the way of college English teaching. 

First of all, we should give full play to the advantages of the Internet and establish an English 
online learning platform. At present, most of the College English teaching uses computers as the main 
teaching platform, which has become mature, but there are still some problems. Because the computer 
is a kind of fixed equipment, the update speed is fast. If the hardware facilities and equipment can not 
keep up with the update and development speed of the times, it will have a certain degree of restriction 
on English teaching innovation. Teachers need to manage teaching resources on the computer, and 
students must carry out learning activities at a fixed place and at a fixed time. In essence, it is still the 
same as traditional classroom teaching. Therefore, it is necessary to build an English online learning 
platform in the Internet age. On the basis of the mobile terminal, the advantages of the online learning 
platform can be brought into play. Students and teachers can operate conveniently without too much 
investment. They can use English resources to carry out English teaching and learning activities, and 
obtain rich picture resources and video resources from them. Students can learn and train English 
knowledge on the mobile terminal anytime and anywhere. Students' enthusiasm for learning should 
be fully mobilized to adapt to English learning forms in the Internet age and improve their autonomy 
in English learning. Taking the teaching of "speaking out" in the College English audio-visual and 
oral course as an example, teachers can make micro class videos for students on the English online 
learning platform and upload them to the online learning platform in combination with the key points 
of this lesson. Students can focus on targeted preview Review and other activities to realize the 
integration of Mr. and offline .

Next，English ubiquity helps to improve students' English language awareness, build a good 
English learning environment, and emphasize the construction of English ubiquity learning 
environment. It can enable college students to obtain and apply English at any time and place without 
restrictions, and enter the interactive environment for communication and interaction. Through the 
practical application of English language, they can learn English and exercise their comprehensive 
English ability. Under the Internet environment, teachers should maximize the learning channels of 
students, design the teaching system in combination with independent learning, curriculum learning 
and language communication, create a good environment for English ubiquitous learning, organically 
integrate management, evaluation and teaching, promote the mutual integration of functions, and 
improve the efficiency of English teaching. Make use of intelligent terminals, software and network 
technology to create a good English environment and conditions, and the society, colleges and 
universities, teachers and other subjects will build a cooperative and joint effect. For example, social 
resources provide students with basic conditions for English learning and English use, and pave the 
technical environment related to the English language. Colleges and universities can create hardware 
environment and conditions to lay a good foundation for Internet English teaching, Teachers and 
students should fully understand the importance of Internet learning and actively participate in 
Internet English learning 

Of course, it is necessary to strengthen the cultivation of students' information literacy while 
cultivating students' Comprehensive English quality, so that students can be guided by teachers in the 
process of learning, change their traditional learning concepts, break through the traditional cognitive 
concepts of English learning, use the Internet to carry out learning activities of English subject 
knowledge anytime and anywhere, and constantly develop towards international and comprehensive 
talents. For example, we can make use of Muke to realize multi-party interaction between teachers 
and students on the platform in interactive learning, so that students can obtain sufficient learning 
resources in the Muke platform of Chinese universities, adapt to the learning form of Muke, 
organically combine English learning activities in class and after class, improve Internet thinking, 
recognize the value of Muke, micro class and other modes in the Internet era, and add them to the 
real scene and prominent themes, Active learning. Learn and exercise English knowledge anytime 
and anywhere, so that students can speak boldly and actively, strengthen English language awareness, 
exercise oral English ability, and improve the comprehensive quality of English subjects. 

4. Summary and reflection 
The practice of college English teaching under the background of "Internet +" is mixed. Now 

colleges and universities are more and more aware of the necessity and importance of improving 
college English teaching under the background of "Internet +", but this will not happen overnight. 
This requires not only the sharp actions of college English teachers to review the development of the 
Internet era, but also the voluntary cooperation of students. "Internet +" provides good resources and 
a broad platform for college English teaching, and has a very broad space for development. In the 
future, relevant research should continue to develop vertically and deeply, and IT is believed that 
college English teaching will be promoted to a higher level.
