BCP Social Sciences & Humanities ERSS 2022 Volume 20 (2022) 262 On emotional expression of installation works in public art Wei Cheng, Deju Bian, Qian Shi, Zhaoxuan Wei College of Art and Design, Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan, China Abstract. Installation work is to use the space, materials and other elements, through the art design, to explain the audience emotion or concept of the art form. Language is a very important form in the way of social communication, it can shorten the distance between people and enhance people's feelings. The emotional orientation of a work is guided by the creator in many ways. This paper focuses on the relationship between installation works and emotional expression, explores how to better express emotions in the works, brings the audience into the scene atmosphere, and analyzes some master works, to explore the effective method of combination of installation design and emotion. Keywords: Artistic creation; Emotional expression; Public art; Installation work. 1. Overview of installation work From the moment "urinal" entered the art exhibition hall, installation art has entered people's vision. After several decades, this art form has developed rapidly, and now has become a cutting-edge contemporary art form. Contemporary installation art pays more attention to value orientation, emotion transmission, art form and so on in the content orientation. In domestic art colleges, installation art has also received more and more attention, in recent years, installation art courses have been set up to inject fresh blood into the art form of installation. Antony had explained installation art, according to his interpretation of the meaning of installation art, can be obtained installation art has a strong objective nature, the intention is not only influenced by the artist's creative ideas, but also by the audience's subjective factors. Different audiences have different levels of appreciation of art, different living environments and different inner states. They all have different interpretations of the same installation work. Therefore, the audience is an indispensable part of the installation art, people live in the real world, and installation art is the derivative of life, it can make the audience in the works to see the epitome of their own life, resulting in a life of reflection. Through systematic study and thinking, I have some knowledge about installation art, a good installation art works must be accepted by the public to understand. "to be read" may be easy for a passage, but it is difficult for a work to be read by a mass audience, first of all, it requires the creator to take root in life to understand the details of the subject matter to be expressed extract the essence of the subject matter, the integration of public thinking to find common ground between thinking and reality. Secondly, considering the position of the work and the characteristics of the audience, the best material processing space environment is sought. Finally, the subject matter of the art design, if a work is only in the general description of the subject matter does not have art aesthetic sense, then the work must be insipid. These are a good installation works of art to pay attention to the details, only the heart to do, to integrate themselves into the environment and theme, to bring the masses into the work. 2. The emotional expression of the installation Installation works are created by artists using artistic techniques on existing themes. Modern people have an inclusive and liking attitude towards this art form. Through reading literature and the accumulation of creative experience, i attribute this tolerance and liking to the fact that installations are better able to convey emotions, especially in the rapidly developing modern world where sound, light and electricity are better combined, the mood of the creator will be translated into artistic expression, thus driving visitors emotional ups and downs. BCP Social Sciences & Humanities ERSS 2022 Volume 20 (2022) 263 To explore the emotional expression of installation works, it should be analyzed from the perspective of the works themselves and the audience environment. The shape design, color collocation and material selection of a piece of installation work can better present the work effect if used reasonably. The analysis of the audience environment is a prerequisite for the success of a work. It is necessary to establish a link between the work and the audience, so that the two can resonate, and to find the elements that fit between the work and the environment, so that the two complement each other. Here are two main points I would like to make. 2.1 Emotional expression and form of installation works The forms of the works I have described here include the forms of the works, the colors of the works and the ways in which the works are presented, this way of exposition seeks a balance between the macro and micro, and enables the participants to have resonance in the form of the work in the process of seeing the work and entering the work, that is to say, a good form of the work is more conducive to visitors to understand the content of the work. Emotions and forms of work are diverse, and the best way to deal with them is through a combination of joy, anger, sadness, sight, hearing and smell, in artist Taryn Simon's An Occupation of Loss, this piece inspired me so much that Symon invited "professional mourners" from 21 countries around the world to perform in a specific space in accordance with the culture of their respective regions, their weeping and mourning reverberate through the space, conveying their grief to the audience. The combination point of this work is to make full use of the sense of hearing, the perfect combination of emotion and work form, the two complement each other to pull the work atmosphere moments to the zenith. Figure 1. Taryn Simon-"An Occupation of Loss" Artist Cruz Deeds's installation chromo saturation consists of blue, red and green colors that make up a three-color artificial environment in a given room. The visitor enters the installation in a monochrome space environment that changes as the visual presentation moves. This arrangement of colored lights is considered by the artist, who has a deep understanding of people's visual habits. If People's vision is always in a monochromatic environment, the visual nerve will produce confusion to perceive all kinds of colors, this chaos acts as a trigger that triggers the perception of visual effects, allowing the viewer to subconsciously deepen the perception of color. Color can not be touched, but it exists in space. It can exist independently without the help of other things. Excellent color collocation can change the mood through visual effect, for example, full red makes people anxious, blue makes people emotionally stable, and so on. Carlos Cruz-colour penetration 2.2 Emotional expression of installation works and selection of works The material plays the most important role in the artistic expression, and its texture, texture and color will play a medium role in the presentation of the work. Due to the complexity and diversity of materials, in modern art creation, the artist's grasp of materials is particularly important. The beauty of the material is not only reflected in the vision, but also in the deepening of the content of the spiritual culture. There is also a subtle relationship between material and emotional expression. When creating a work, the artist will consider the choice of appropriate materials to deepen the theme, through the material texture to the audience's emotional expression. Professor Liu fan created the "Wuhan isolated life series" works during the epidemic prevention and control period. Professor Liu was extremely anxious when he created these works, he once wrote, "life has no meaning, and to live is to die at home. I seem to see an emotional death. Some people say this is the anxiety of death." It is under the influence of this emotion, the teacher made art with the most "life-like" materials. The materials he chose were just a few wool threads, a few dough pieces and a few vegetables, but it is this living material that gives the series its most authentic feel, as if seeing the work takes us back to the isolated environment during the epidemic prevention and control, and with that comes anxiety and panic. Good works often do not need how expensive and luxurious materials, in this material-rich era, people tend to pay more attention to the inner fullness, works with the selection of materials, it is most important to use the most suitable material to express the most suitable subject matter. An effective combination of installation art and emotional expression Emotion plays an important role in people's daily life. How to combine emotion with installation art and how to express it is a problem that every creator has to face. From my works in the creative process I summarized the following points: first of all, we need to establish the content of the works, from the point of view of the works, deep work connotation, to find the core of the expression. Secondly, the art design of the object, from the visual, auditory, tactile aspects, the use of sensory sensitivity to create a moderate impact on the visitors can lead to emotional psychological suggestion. Furthermore, emotional diversity requires the creator to start from the details, each of the details of the processing will speed up the expansion of the emotion, when the emotion is full, will reveal the true feelings. Finally, the entire creative process must be synchronized. Wild ideas may enrich the work, but they can also damage the space atmosphere and affect the emotional development. The combination of wild ideas with the work is the best way to deal with it. We may not look the same or be the same, but we all have a lot of emotions, and the combination of emotions and work is an important part of the development of installation art.
