The training goal of application-oriented universities to cultivate advanced application-oriented talents urges higher education to pay more attention to the requirements of practical knowledge while paying attention to the teaching of basic theoretical knowledge, and strengthen students' practical work ability. Introduction Skill competition is an organized mass competition focusing on highlighting operational skills and the ability to solve practical problems, which is carried out according to the national vocational skill standards and in combination with the actual production and operation work. It is also an important basis for the practical teaching level of applied universities. Promoting Education by Competition and Innovating Talent Training Mode The cultivation of applied talents emphasizes on taking theoretical knowledge as the basis, focusing on practical ability, cultivating students' comprehensive quality and professional core ability, and paying attention to students' social practical ability. Skill competition has played a positive role in the education concept, teacher construction, teaching content and teaching means of participating schools, promoted the reform of talent training mode, and has an impact on training objectives, training system and training evaluation. By participating in various vocational skill competition held inside and outside the school, we see the importance of educational innovation. To cultivate applied professionals in applied universities, we should emphasize the cultivation of students' technological innovation ability and the ability to transform this innovation ability into practical productivity.
