This study was a quantitative research. The data for this study was
obtained through questionnaire responses among students from the faculty
of Humanities at Lamphun Buddhist College Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya
University. Questionnaires were adapted from Self-Directed Learning Readiness
Scale (SDLRS) of Lucy M. Guglielmino’s (1977) to measure the complex of
attitudes, abilities and characteristics which comprise readiness to engage in
self-directed learning. Data was analyzed by statistical program, SPSS. The result
of the study showed that the level of self-directed learning readiness of students
was in average level. It is hoped that the results of this study will provide more
knowledge and better understanding of the concept of Self-Directed Learning
(SDL), leading to future effective curriculum of promoting English language
proficiency among ESL Thai learners. Moreover, this study will help teachers to

arrange appropriate lesson plans and teaching methodology.
