0 I am preparing a dissertation on the comparative study of
French and Anglo-American counting-out rhymes. I would
like to correspond with anyone interested in this subject.
I am also willing to exchange tapes of French counting-out
rhymes against tapes of American counting-out rhymes.

0 Re: collecting in New Orleans and vicinity
". . .I have collected variants of jump-rope games,hand claps,
counting-out forumulae and ring and line games. Some of my
tapes have jokes, ghost stories, jacks lore and marbles discus-
sions. I have two tapes which are rambling interviews with
older citizens of New Orleans who lived before and through
the Depression. They talk about games they played and ways
they entertained themselves along with personal memories
of friends and events. I amnow doingthe picture essay showing
the folding of a "cootie" and the way the object is used to
tell fortunes. And last, I have a collection of twenty-nine
cheers from girlsagessevento nineteen, who were not officially
cheerleaders. These girls were summer campers, children from
my neighborhood, and school girls in New Orleans, both
black and white. . ."
