CFS MEETING, 1987 Minutes, continued

Chip Sullivan reported that he has made initial inquiries
about AFS support for non-American children's folklore
scholars to attend the AFS Centenhial meetings. Members
present proposed additional scholars that the Section might
invite.

Linda Morley proposed "A Retrospective Look at
Children's Folklore" as the topic of a Section-sponsored
panel at the 1988AFS meetings. Members present discussed
this and alternative topics. Jay reminded members to notify
the Section's Vice-President of AFS panels, papers, etc., on
children's folklore, since coordinating and circulating news
of such events is one of the Vice-President's duties. Jay then
asked for suggestions as to future Section-sponsored forums
on children's folklore (e.g., that held in 1986on Girl's Play).
Libby Tucker volunteered to look into a forum on Ethics in
Children's Folklore Study for the 1988 meeting.

With the approval of the members present, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:25 a.m.

The Children's Folklore Section of the American Folk-
lore Society invites submissions of books for its Opie Prize
for 1988. The prize carries with it a $200 award. The prize
honors the late Peter Opie, internationally recognized author
of books on children's folklore, and will be awarded for an
outstanding contribution to the understanding of the folk-
lore and folklife of children. Edited volumes, collections of
folklore, and authored studies published in English during
1986 or 1987 are eligible. Authors or publishers should
submit 2 copies of the book before April 1, 1988, to C. W.
Sullivan III, English Department, East Carolina University,
Greenville, NC 27858-4353. The winner of the prize will be
announced at the American Folklore Society's annual
meeting in Boston, October 25-30, 1988.
