P e o p l e i n t h e N e w sAnn-Christe Galloway Linda Zellmer, government information and data services librarian at Western Illinois University (WIU), has received the 2017 Mary B. Ansari Dis- tinguished Service Award from the Geo- science Information Society (GSIS). The award recognizes sig- nificant contributions to the field of geo- science information. Zellmer has been at WIU since 2008 and serves as library liaison to several science departments on campus. Zellmer’s publications include an extensive geosciences webliography of electronic re- sources, “The Geosciences: Selected Web Resources” published in Issues in Science & Technology Librarianship, and her most re- cent paper, “Protected Places: A Survey of Laws on Archaeological Site and Cave Loca- tion Confidentiality and Their Potential Im- pact on Library Reference Policies and Ser- vices,” which was published in Journal of Maps & Geography Libraries in August 2017. Zellmer served as GSIS president in 2003. A p p o i n t m e n t s Robert McInnes has been appointed ar- chivist and special collections librarian at Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS), in Glenside, Pennsylvania. He will be the cura- tor of the WTS collection of rare books, the seminary’s archives, and the papers donated by the seminary’s founders and faculty. Mc- Innes has been working in archives and re- search libraries since 1987 and has worked at the Tampa City Archives, the Virginia His- torical Society, the Kansas Historical Society, the New London County Historical and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and most recently Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary, where he was the di- rector of library and archives. Sarah Carter has accepted the art, archi- tecture, and design librarian position with the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries. Robert Correll joined the U.S. Naval Academy as science librarian and assessment coordinator. Emily Frank is Louisiana State University Libraries new coordinator of scholarship and open access. Sarah Hoover is now special collections cataloger at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill Library. Hayley Johnson has joined the Louisiana State University Libraries faculty as head of government documents and microforms. Jessica Kirschner has been appointed digital publishing librarian at the Texas Tech University Libraries. Maria Koshute is now English librarian and information literacy coordinator at the United States Naval Academy. Megan Lounsberry is now Louisiana State University’s Middleton Library electronic resources librarian. Kelly Durkin Ruth has been named en- gineering librarian at the United States Naval Academy. Sara Schumacher has been appointed architecture image librarian at the Texas Tech University Libraries. Nick Skaggs has been appointed Louisiana State University Libraries’ new manuscripts processing archivist. Melissa Smith has joined Louisiana State University Libraries faculty as assistant curator of manuscripts for special collections. Scott Ziegler has joined Louisiana State University Libraries as the new head of digital programs and services in Technology Initiates. Retirements Anne Beaubien, director of library docu- ment delivery at the University of Michigan (UM) retired in 2016 after more than 45 years of service. She joined UM in 1971 and held a number of key positions, including social sciences reference librarian and bib- liographic instructor, director of the Michi- gan Information Transfer Source, head of Business and Cooperative Access Services, and director of MLibrary Document Deliv- ery. She cotaught one of the first informa- tion literacy courses offered by UM and co- authored one of the first text books for the emerging field of bibliographic instruction. Beaubien created one of the first fee-based information services in an academic library designed to meet the needs of businesses (1980) and established a campus docu- ment delivery system for books and articles (1985). Beaubien served as ACRL president (1991–92) and was on the ACRL Board of Directors for nine years. She also served on the board of directors for the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and as a member and chair of numerous ACRL and RUSA committees. Beaubien helped estab- lish two new sections of ALA in response to emerging needs: ACRL Instruction Section and RUSA Sharing and Transforming Access to Resource Section. Her publications and presentations span a wide range of issues, including user instruction, fee-based ser- vices, interlibrary loan, document delivery, and resource sharing. Beaubien’s awards include the UM School of Information Dis- tinguished Alumnus Award (1987) and the Virginia Boucher-OCLC Distinguished Inter- library Loan Librarian Award (2007). Bee Gallegos retired in December 2017 as li- brarian emeritus after 34 years at the Arizona State University (ASU) Library. She worked for a short time on the Tempe campus in 1984, but when the new West campus in Phoenix was established in September 1984, she was one of two librarians tasked with creating a new library. She also served as subject librarian for a number of disciplines including, but not limited to education, his- tory, social work, psychology, nursing and travel, tourism, and recreation. In addition, she served as coordinator of lower division instruction, where she led a team in develop- ing both a board game and an online game to introduce first-year students to the library and doing research. During the last three years prior to retirement, Gallegos served as cochair of the Online Tutorials and Learning team that completely revamped all ASU Li- brary tutorials and developed new ones. Pri- or to ASU she was reference and interlibrary loan librarian at Jacksonville State University and head of interlibrary loan at the Univer- sity of Georgia. Deaths Stephen J. Bensman, who worked for 37 years for Louisiana State University Libraries, has died. Bensman worked in a variety of po- sitions, most significantly as bibliographer for the social sciences and cataloging librarian, be- fore retiring from in 2015.
