P e o p l e i n t h e N e w sAnn-Christe Galloway A p p o i n t m e n t s Diane Bruxvoort has been named dean of libraries and librarian of the University of North Texas. Most recently, Bruxvoort was special collections and museums uni- versity librarian and director at the Uni- versity of Aberdeen in Scotland. Prior to that, she served as senior associate dean at the Uni- versity of Florida. Bruxvoort’s career accomplishments encompass a variety of other institutions, in- cluding the University of Houston, the Hous- ton Public Library, the Harris County Public Library, and the Newberry Library. Bruxvoort has several peer-reviewed articles and re- views, two books, one book chapter, and has been a guest at many invited presentations. Barbara J. (Barb) Mann is now dean of li- brary services at the Daniel J. Kaufman Library and Learning Center at Georgia Gwinnett Col- lege in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Robert A. McInnes has been appointed ar- chivist and special collections librarian at West- minster Theological Seminary. Lynly Beard is now research impact and social work librarian at the University of Wash- ington Libraries Health Sciences Library. Renée Chérie Clark is now acquisitions librarian at the University of Arkansas-Monticello Library. Ian Fowler has joined the New York Public Library as the geospatial librarian and map curator at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. Erin Grant has been named director of cataloging and metadata services at the Uni- versity of Washington Libraries. Amanda Hurford has been appointed scholarly communications director at the Private Academic Library Network of Indi- ana Inc. Nathan Kelber has been named digital scholarship specialist at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Library. Scott Libson has accepted the position of history librarian with the Indiana University- Bloomington Libraries. R e t i r e m e n t s Marcia Boosinger, associate dean for pub- lic services of Auburn University Libraries (AUL), has retired after 32 years at AUL. Boosinger was instrumental in the continued develop- ment of the libraries of Auburn Univer- sity, including two building expansions of the main Ralph Brown Draughon Library and the re- purposing of library spaces to make the Auburn libraries a one-stop study help location for students. During her tenure at AUL, Boosinger was awarded the Auburn University Women of Distinction Leadership Award for Faculty; Significant Contribution Award, Alabama Association of College and Research Librar- ies; and the Blackwell North America Award for Research Promise in Librarianship. In 1998 she assumed the newly created po- sition of head of reference and instruction services, consolidating all library reference services into a single operating unit within the libraries. Boosinger was appointed as- sociate dean for public services in 2007. She has solely authored or contributed to numerous articles and various other pub- lications, professional presentations, and posters. Boosinger has also been active in service to the university community as sec- retary of the Auburn University Senate, the first librarian to serve on the University Pro- motion and Tenure Committee, cochair of the University Writing Initiative Task Force, and founding and continuing member of the Auburn University Common Book Com- mittee. She served as the university faculty athletics representative, chair of the Com- mittee on Intercollegiate Athletics, member of the NCAA Academics/Eligibility Cabinet, and member of the Southeastern Confer- ence Executive Committee. Boosinger’s professional organization service includes her election to four consecutive three-year terms as the Alabama chapter councilor, service on the ALA Executive Council, and as president of the Alabama Association of College and Research Libraries. David Lewis, after 18 years at the helm of the IUPUI University Library, will retire in May 2018. While at IUPUI, Lewis ad- vanced the conver- sation about what a 21st-century library should be. His vision is described in his 2016 publication Rei- magining the Aca- demic Library (Row- an & Littlefield). Lewis was named the 2018 ACRL Academic/Research Librarian of the Year. In his retirement, Lewis plans to continue his participation in the wider com- munity of organizations focused sustainable models for scholarly publication, dissemina- tion, and curation. Deaths Warren Boehm Kuhn dean of library ser- vices emeritus of Iowa State University has died. His career spanned 45 years in library administration at Princeton, Stanford, New Mexico, Arizo- na State, New York Public Library, and Iowa State, where he served from 1967 until retirement in 1989. He oversaw the construction of Stanford’s Meyer Undergraduate Li- brary and became its first director. He also supervised the creation of the Julian Street Undergraduate Library at Princeton and his Street bibliography of holding was pub- lished by R. R. Bowker. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Warren Boehm Kuhn David Lewis
