She has replaced J. Donald Thomas, who accepted a position with the University of Maryland as head of the Undergraduate Li brary. Mrs. Lynch, the eighth person to hold this challenging position, is the first woman and the youngest person to hold the office. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the North Dakota State University in 1957, and her Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1959. She expects to receive her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in December 1972. While Mrs. Lynch was a graduate student at the University of Illinois, she served as as sistant in the Serials Department of the Univer sity of Illinois library. After a year as senior reference librarian in the Plymouth (England) Public Library on an exchange program, Mrs. Lynch became the librarian of the Philosophy and Theology Collection at Marquette Univer sity library in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1962 she became the assistant cataloger at Mar quette. From 1963 to 1968, Mrs. Lynch was a mem ber of the staff of Yale University library, as as sistant head of the Serials Division until 1965, and then as head of the division. An HEW Fellowship enabled Mrs. Lynch to enroll in the Ph.D. program at the University of Wisconsin in 1968. She has carried a teach ing program in the Library School, reflecting her interests and abilities in library manage ment and operations. Her degree is an interdis ciplinary one with emphasis on the theory of organization, and major course work in the School of Business and the Department of So ciology. Mrs. Lynch’s dissertation, based on a comparative study of fifteen departments in three major research libraries, has been com pleted. Mrs. Lynch has been secretary of the Serials Section, RTSD, and is a member of the Biblio graphical Society of America and the American Sociological Association. ■■ C o lle g e & Research L ib ra rie s is p u b lis h e d b y th e A s s o c ia tio n o f C o lle g e and Research L ib ra rie s , a d iv is io n o f th e A m e ric a n L ib ra ry A s s o c ia tio n , 17 tim e s y e a rly — 6 b im o n th ly jo u rn a l issues and I I m o n th ly , co m b in in g J u ly - A u g u s t, News issues a t 1201-05 B lu ff St., F u lto n , M o . 65251.
