ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries 196 / C&RL News ■ March 2000 CONFERENCE CIRCUIT A C R L a t t h e M i d w i n t e r M e e t i n g A c t io n s o f t h e A C R L B o a r d o f D i r e c t o r s D uring the 2000 ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, the ACRL Board of Di rectors met on January 16 and 18 and took the following actions: ACRL g o ve rn a n ce Approved, upon recom m endation fro m the Bylaws committee, revisions to the By laws o f its English and Literature Section, Asian, African, and Middle East Section, C om m unity and Junior College Li braries Section, and Education and Be h aviora l Science Section. Voted to approve ACRL Strategic Plan 2005 (see h ttp :// www. ala. org/acrl/ stratpla.html). ACRL s tru c tu re Established the ACRL Committee on Eth ics and its charge to enhance awareness of the ethical context of service in an academic library; to educate academic librarians on how to address ethical issues effectively; to articulate core ethical principles that define the interpretation o f ethical issues in the workplace; to clarify professional issues re lating to ethics in a way that reflects many perspectives; to promote awareness of aca demic librarianship ethics on the part of the communities served; through its work to im prove the quality of academic library ser vice and o f the atmosphere in which it takes place. Finances Approved, upon recom m endation fro m the Budget and Finance Committee, the fol lowing changes to the FY2000 Budget: added budgets for two preconferences— 1) Licens ing and 2) Legislative Leadership Training; allocated funds for three new programs— CHEMA Joint Partnership and Effective Prac tices in Higher Education, Information Lit eracy Best Practices, and ACRL scholar ships; and revised the revenues and expenses fo r the O hio Im m ersion Program and the RBMS Preconfer ence. Approved a policy on Annual Confer ence Speaker hono ria for section and committee programs that established a $500 ceiling. Approved allocations to support scholar ships for two ACRL programs: 1) Institute for Information Literacy Immersion Program 2000 at the University o f Washington— $10,000; and 2) Legislative Leadership train ing preconference before the ALA 2000 An nual Conference in Chicago, $12,600 to pro vide $300 to each of the ACRL Chapters for one o f its members to participate.
