The site covers the basic topics of disasters, preservation education for staff and users, pres­ ervation m anagem ent and collections m ainte­ nance, including a generic disaster plan, a di­ saster plan exercise, and information about preservation needs assessment, pest m anage­ ment, m old and basic b ook repair. The site also contains the text of California’s 1995 Pres­ ervation Program docum ent. The CPC W eb site is at http://cpc.stanford.edu. Web resources guidelines The National Library of Australia has produced an d m ounted o n its W eb site Safeguarding Australia’s W eb Resources: Guidelines for Cre­ ators and Publishers. The guidelines are d e­ signed to assist those w ho do not already have w ell-established data m anagem ent systems. They cover resource creation, description, m an­ agem ent, an d m aintenance o f links. They also define the role and scope of the National Li­ brary in W eb preservation. Audio preservation online The Photographic and Recording Media Com­ mittee o f the Association for Library Collec­ tions and Technical Services (ALCTS) Preser­ vation and Reformatting Section has m ade two contributions to online resources about audio preservation. The first is a p d f version o f the 1998 publication A u d io Preseivation: A Selec­ tive A n n o ta ted Bibliography a n d B rie f S u m ­ m ary o f Current Practicesby Robin Dale, Janet Gertz, Richard Peek, and Mark Roosa. It also includes lists o f standards, relevant jour­ nals, organizations and acronyms, and informa­ tion about six sound archives. The second con­ tribution is a new conservation topic on the CoOL Web site, called Audio materials. It includes in­ formation and links to other sites under the head­ ings overview, formats, standards, guidelines, and best practices, bibliographic resources, digital audio, organizations concerned with audio pres­ ervation, mailing lists, and audio preservation resources at other sites. Walter Henry, creator and m a n a g e r o f th e CoOL W eb site, a n d th e committee’s members welcome suggestions for additions to this site. Albumen photography online There is a n e w W eb site, A lbum en Photo­ graphs: History, Science and Preservation, d e­ voted to the album en print process. It is di­ v id e d in to six sec tio n s: library, sc ie n c e , technology, gallery, video clips, and treatm ent forum. The library contains the full-texts of four m onographs and nearly 150 articles. They are organized in 23 topic areas, and all text is seachable by keyword. The gallery contains five exhibitions w ith nearly 150 images. The video clips section illustrates the com plete al­ bum en print process, with images saved in A pple’s QuickTime format (.mov). The treat­ m ent forum allows exchange o f information about actual treatm ents using Discus. Only practicing conservators may post treatment de­ scriptions to the forum, b ut anyone m ay par­ ticipate in the discussions. A num ber o f indi­ viduals and organizations have contributed to creation o f the W eb site, including Timothy Vitale, Paul Messier, Walter Henry, John Burke, Richard Gadd, the M onterey M useum o f Art, the Stanford University Libraries, and the Na­ tional Center for Preservation Technology and T ra in in g .
