ACRL Strategic Plan Received a req u est fro m th e ACRL Publica­ tions Committee asking that the Strategic Plan b e modified to include a strategic direction under Goal 1 “that promotes study, research, and publications relevant to academic and re­ search librarianship”; asked that the Executive Committee develop a process to facilitate mak­ ing changes to the Strategic Plan, and that the Publications Committee request be placed on the Board’s agenda for consideration at Annual Conference 1996. Reviewed th e crite ria fo r track in g p ro g ress and measuring success in implementing the ACRL Strategic Plan. The Board asked Frances Maloy and Carol Pfieffer to further refine by March 1 the six criteria which now include: member satisfaction; quality programs; address­ ing higher education issues; working with Wash­ ington officials; providing fiscal stability for the division; and working effectively with sections and chapters. The second draft document will b e ready for an Executive Committee discus­ sion during the spring Executive Committee meeting. R eviewed d raft d o cu m e n t identifying in ­ centives to recognize activities and programs that are aligned with the Strategic Plan. ACRL governance A pproved th e new ch arg e and stru ctu re fo r the Government Relations Committee as rec­ ommended by the Government Relations/Chap­ ters Task Force that uses chapter representa­ tives to form a national network for addressing legislative issues. R eceived reco m m en d ed ch an g e in ch arg es from the ACRL International Relations and Pro­ fessional Education Committees. A pp roved a ch an g e to Article XI, Rules o f Order, o f the ACRL Bylaws from R oberts Rules o f O rder to Sturgis Standard Code o f Parliamen­ tary Procedure in order to conform to the ALA change. A pproved ch an g es to th e W om en ’s Studies Section (WSS) Bylaws, Article II, Section 1, Pur­ pose and Section 2, Specific Responsibilities. The proposed change will appear on the spring 1996 WSS ballot. Financial actions A pproved fundraising guidelines fo r ACRL. A pproved th e tra n sfe r o f $ 1 0 ,0 0 0 fro m th e ACRL fund balance to the ACRL endowment to be designated for the Vision for the Future Ini­ tiative. This comes out o f the commitment the Board made to the Pittsburgh National Confer­ ence Executive Committee to match the rev­ enue generated by the silent auction. E n d o r s e d th e R a r e B o o k s a n d M a n u s c rip ts Section’s nomination of Henry Snyder for a sec­ ond term as ALA’s representative to the IFLA Section for Rare and Precious Books and Manu­ scripts. Liaison and publication actions V o ted to r e m o v e AAUP f r o m lis t o f o r g a ­ nizations constituting the ACRL Council of Liai­ sons. E n d o r s e d t h e ACRL I n te lle c tu a l F r e e d o m Committee (IFC) draft document “Electronic Access Interpretation o f the L ib ra ry B ill o f R ights” and approved the Board’s transmittal letter to the IFC stating concerns and reserva­ tions. E n d o r s e d th e re s o lu tio n f r o m th e C o lleg e Libraries Section (CLS) that ALA Editions inves­ tigate publishing the fourth edition o f B o o k s f o r C ollege L ib raries and that ALA Editions explore expanding the scope to include all formats and materials. ■ 1 5 0 /C&RL News
