ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries 338 People P R O F IL E Pearce S. Grove, library director at Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, has been ap pointed director of libraries at Western Illinois University, Macomb, succeeding Donald S. MacVean. Since Grove goes to Macomb at a time when Western Illinois is completing plans for a new $10 million library build ing and when a new president is commit ted to a strong library program, he is likely to continue a record of achievement which Pearce S. Grove includes special atten tion to making the academic library an effective part of the educational program. His work in nonprint media resulted in the recent publication of Nonprint Media in Academic L i braries (ACRL Publications in Librarianship no. 34) and earlier, w ith Evelyn Clement, Bib liographic Control of Nonprint Media (ALA, 1972). Just prior to his departure from Eastern New Mexico, the University of New Mexico Press published his N ew Mexico Newspapers; A Comprehensive Guide to Bibliographic En tries and Locations, and ENMU itself pub lished his Native American Studies. Mr. Grove, a native of Georgia, received his B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Florida, and his M.S. in L.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1958. He has been, suc cessively, assistant education, philosophy, and psychology librarian at Illinois (1958-60); ac quisitions and serials librarian, University of Il linois at Chicago (1960-61); librarian, Colo rado Woman’s College (1961-64); assistant di rector, Kansas State University (1964-66); and, since 1966, library director, chairman of the Departm ent of Library Science, and associate professor at Eastern New Mexico University. During his period as librarian of Colorado Woman’s College he planned the new library building and he has recently been responsible for the completion of an addition to the library at ENMU. Active in a host of civic and library associa tions, Pearce Grove has served as president of the Southwestern Library Association, 1973-75, which he helped revitalize, and the Portales Ki- wanis Club. He retired from the U.S. Naval Re serve in 1974 as a lieutenant commander. His energies on the state level included participa tion in the successful campaign to secure pas sage of a $10 million bond issue to upgrade li brary resources in the state-supported colleges and universities in New Mexico over a ten-year period. Library cooperation has received consider able attention from him and he is executive secretary of the Southwest Academic Library Consortium and serves on the Automated Bib liographic Network Committee for the Inter- University Council/Ohio College Library Cen ter Project. He is editor of the fall 1975, L i brary Trends issue on “Regional Cooperative Endeavors.” On the national level he has had a number of assignments on ALA committees and served on the ALA Council, as well as served as a consultant to a number of libraries. The above profile was written by Edward G. Holley, dean of the Library School, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.— Ed.
