W hile visiting the exhibits, I spoke w ith John M inter of the Chronicle D ata Service in Boulder, Colorado. M inter hopes to have the d ata from the NCES sur vey of college and university libraries for 1981-82 available soon on floppy disks to be used on p er sonal computers. Depending on the software used, the cost will be from $95 to $125 to nonprofit insti tutions for d ata on up to 300 colleges and universi ties. D ata blocks are available by state, by accredit in g reg io n , or by ty p e of in s titu tio n (2 -y ear, university, public, private, etc.). Custom blocks can be developed for an extra $50. The Chronicle D a ta Service is located at 1790 30th St., Suite 150, Boulder, CO 80301. Rem ember th a t ACRL is also m aking the d ata available in h ard copy: Library Statistics o f Colleges and Universities, 1981-82. D ata on all 3,000 institutions in the survey is avail able prepaid for $12 for ACRL members and $16 for non-members. Also exhibiting at AAHE was the C om puter L it eracy Project of EDUCOM . EDUCOM is a consor tium of colleges and universities founded in 1964 to facilitate the introduction, use, and m anagem ent of inform ation technology. The C om puter L iter acy Project was created in 1983 to assist academ ic institutions in p rom oting com puter literacy for non-specialists on th e ir cam puses. T he P roject m aintains a database on com puter literacy projects at different institutions, publishes a newsletter, runs sem inars, and is developing guidelines for com puter literacy programs. Over 600 academic institutions are participating in this project. For further inform ation, w rite to Steven W . G ilbert, D irector, C om puter Literacy Project, ED U COM , Box 364, Princeton, NJ 08540. At every conference, AAHE reserves tim e for “Position Roundtables” w here individuals can get together for an inform al m eeting w ith colleagues in th e sam e position at o th e r in stitu tio n s. ACRL m em ber Joanne E uster, lib rary director at San Francisco State University, arranged a m eeting of deans and directors of libraries. The librarians a t tending the m eeting agreed th a t it is im portant for library adm inistrators to p articipate in higher edu cation associations like AAHE in order to give in creased visibility to academ ic lib ra rie s.—Sandy W hiteley, A C R L program officer. ■ ■ I I
