The pamphlet in­ cludes information on select­ ing storage materials and preparing collections for storage, plus illustrated examples o f possible storage systems and a brief bibliography. B ookLab publishes Leafm aster BookLab has published Leafmaster‚ the six­ teenth in its B ookNote series. G e rm a n Research Council initiates m icro film ing p ro g ra m The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (D FG ) in Bonn, Germany, has allocated over DM 1 million for microfilming de­ teriorating library c o lle c ­ tions. Journals, yearbooks, and volumes in special col­ lections or central disciplin­ ary libraries w ill receive top priority for filming. In return for supplying funds to mi­ crofilm, the DFG w ill re­ serve the right to request a silver halide duplicate be placed in a central deposi­ tory, if one is developed in the future. This n ew program is in­ tended to encourage other German microfilm­ ing programs, especially at the state level, and to p ro m u lgate standards fo r film in g and bibliographic access. The DFG is also sup­ porting creation o f a German register o f mi­ crofilm masters, which could contribute bib­ lio g r a p h ic in fo rm a tio n to the E u rop ean Register o f Microfilm Masters (EROMM). SMU hosts symposium fo r policymakers Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, hosted a symposium on April 29, 1993, for 70 legislators, university administrators, faculty members, librarians, and archivists from the Southwest. The day-long meeting was designed to inform both public and institutional policy­ makers o f the need for preservation o f our cul­ tural resources. ALCTS publishes reorganization report On May 19, 1993, the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) o f the American Library Association published the “Re­ p o rt o f the ALCTS O rganizational Structure Task Force. ” The report proposed a substantial re­ structuring o f ALCTS, including incorporation o f preservation and reproduction o f library ma­ terials activities into a new Resource Manage­ ment and Delivery Section.
