Manuscripts needed for Publications in Librarianship A C R L Publications in Librarianship, a series devoted to scholarly m onographs in academ ic librarianship, has issued m ore th an forty vol­ umes since 1952. Many of these studies repre­ sent distinguished contributions to th e history, theory, and practice of academ ic librarianship. T h e e d ito r ia l b o a r d in v ite s a u th o rs of booklength studies to subm it m anuscripts for review. Proposals for m anuscripts in progress are welcome and should be accom panied by an outline of the contents. The submission of dis­ sertations is encouraged, b u t m any will require substantial revision by the author. M anuscripts will be acknowledged and read by at least tw o members of th e editorial board. M anuscripts related to the following topics are p artic u larly welcome: ad m in istra tio n of college libraries; com puter applications; collec­ tion assessment; m anagem ent of reference ser­ vices; self-directed studies; and staff develop­ ment. A native of H a m ­ bu rg , G erm any, A pton cam e to th e U nited States in 1947 and joined th e Stanford staff in 1964 as one of the first m em bers of th e new ly created Resources D evelopm ent P rogram (later th e C ollection D evel­ opm ent P rogram ), w orking in th e G erm anic C ol­ lections Office. She assum ed te m p o ra ry cu rato ria l responsibility in 1967 a n d from 1975 to 1977, an d earned a m aster’s degree from th e G erm an Studies D e p a rtm e n t a t Stanford in 1979. Evenson cam e to NLS/BPPI in 1973 as an advisor, an d from 1974 to 1984 was p rogram director in charge of a variety of research a n d developm ent projects, especially those related to braille read in g devices a n d pro d u ctio n technology.
