The w orkshop will provide theoretical u n ­ d e rs ta n d in g a n d p ra c tic a l ex perience in digital refor­ m atting o f p ap e r- o r film- based text an d images. Anne Kenney an d S tephen Chapm an o f Cornell, and Jam es Reilly o f the Image P erm anence Institute will serve as faculty. Cost for each w o rk sh o p m ay b e $1,500, not including travel or lodging. (Cornell is seeking additional financial sup p o rt in ord er to reduce th e fee an d , if successful, m ay lo w er it to $1,200.) Session dates are Ju n e 12– 16, 1995, August 14– 18, 1995, O ctober 9– 13, 1995, and March 18–22, 1996. Enrollment is limited to 16 per session. Its 21 m em bers have b ee n selected from publishing, information technology, librar­ ies, an d archives. D on Waters o f Yale Univer­ sity an d J o h n Garrett o f the Corporation for National Research Initiatives are serving as co­ chairs. The charge to th e task force covers the intellectual, social, econom ic, an d legal, as well as the technological aspects o f this issue. They will consider, in particular, th e problem s in­ h eren t in digital data refreshm ent, an d seek solutions o r alternatives. An interim report is ex p ected by May 1995.
