H erring is president-elect o f the Association for Library and Learning Center Directors (ALLCeD) and has served as president o f the College and University Division of the O klahom a Library Association an d as the Intellectual Freedom chair o f th e T ennessee Library Association. Paul Leonard Library at San Francisco State Univer­ sity, d ied o n July 2, 1999. Knights joined the university in O ctober 1955 as a reference li­ brarian in th e Hum anities an d Language Arts D epartm ent. She w as later responsible for the G en eral R eading Room , w h ic h h o u s e d cur­ rent periodicals, a brow sing collection, an d som e university archival materials. W hen the library reorganized, Knights becam e the h ead o f th e Periodicals D epartm ent, w hich she led until 1983. In 1986, she b ecam e a m em b er o f th e R eader Services D epartm ent, w h ere she served at the Reference Desk, coordinated In­ form ation D esk service, oversaw gifts to the library, a n d w o rk e d w ith d o n o rs a n d the Friends o f th e Library.
