tw o w ere often repeated: “Make the News m ore 
readable!” an d  “The type is too small!”

With this issue I am  resp o n d in g  to  those 
com m ents. We have increased the size o f the 
type an d  u p d a te d  the look to deliver to you a 
m ore readable magazine. W e’re excited about 
o u r new  look an d  h o p e  th at yo u  find it a pleas­
ing change.

Continuing our look at recruitment in this issue, 
Patricia Kreitz offers a num ber of practical, easy-to- 
implement suggestions for encouraging library staff 
to pursue careers in librarianship.

H annelore Rader exhorts librarians to  get 
involved in librarianship at a n  international level 
in “T he W ay I See It.”

As meetings and conferences proliferate and 
as travel budgets shrink, it is hard er to  attend 
all th e events pertinent to our profession. C&RL 
News ho p es to m ake it easier for yo u  to  stay 
u p -to-date w ith our “C onference Circuit” d e ­
partm ent. In this issue Paula Murphy an d  Cheryl 
Spiese McKee give us brief reports o f m eetings 
th ey  have attended.
