ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries Ja n u a r y 1 9 9 7 / 2 5 Preservation New s J a n e Hedberg Com m ission an d CLR m erge The Commission on Preser­ vation and Access and the Council on Library Resources (CLR) will officially merge on July 1, 1997. Until that time, the two organizations will operate p r o te m p o r e as a merged organization. The legal documents necessary to finalize the restructuring, plus the new name and mis­ sion statement will be drawn up by April 1997. The new organization will continue to be active in all former program areas: leadership, digital librar­ ies, economics of information, preservation and access, international initiatives, and discussions with scholars. Stanley Chodorow will serve as chairman, Marilyn Gell Mason as vice-chairman, David B. Gracy II as secretary, and Dan Tonkery as treasurer. Preservatio n m eetings a t M idw inter There will be a number of Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) meetings during the ALA Midwinter Meeting, and because it is taking place in Washington, D.C., many will be held at the Library of Congress. In particu­ lar, the Preservation Administrators Discussion Group (PADG) will hold its meeting on Friday, February 14, 2:00-5:30 p.m. in the Mumford Room at LC. Everyone with an interest in pres­ ervation administration is invited to attend. N ARA p reservatio n conference The National Archives and Records Adminis­ tration (NARA) will hold its 12th annual pres­ ervation conference on March 18, 1997, in Col­ lege Park, Maryland. The conference is titled: “What Is Being Done to Control Insects and Mold Now that Systematic Fumigation Has Ended?” Topics and speakers include large-scale pest monitoring (Carol Butler, National Museum of Natural History), fungal problems and solu­ tions (Mary Lou Florian, formerly of the Royal British Columbia Museum), integrated programs (Albert Greene, General Services Administra­ tion), pest managem ent (Margaret Hacker, NARA), hazards of control strategies (Wendy Clare Jessup, Jessup and Assoc.), and new con­ trol strategies (Tom Strang, Canadian Conser­ vation Institute).
