ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries 118 / C&RL News ■ M arch 2004 I n t h e n e w s Getting published in scholarly journals is a ne­ cessity for many academic and research librar­ ians, but the process of getting started and taking first steps in this arena can be daunting. “Tips for getting published in scholarly journals” offers useful information on h o w to familiarize your­ self w ith scholarly publication in the field, im­ prove your writing, and gain writing experience. Another sometimes daunting experience is that o f conducting research using grey literature. This m onth’s Internet Resources column provides an array of Web sites and discussion lists that can make this task a little easier. T he Partnerships an d Connections article il­ lustrates h o w the library can build relationships and its reputation o n cam pus through participa­ tion in a campus-wide “One Book, O ne Commu­ nity” initiative. W inston Salem-State University’s library initiated bringing the concept to its cam ­ pus this year and has found that the program has strengthened aw areness of the library through­ out the campus community. T he Way I See It offers advice o n h o w to break through the language barrier betw een li­ brarians an d students in the library by reducing the use o f library lingo an d educating students on the term inology they need to know.
