A D u n  & B rad street survey o f  1,3 1 9  tw o- and  fo u r-year institutions finds a 13 
p e rc e n t in cre a se  in sp en d in g  o n  in form ation  te ch n o lo g y  this year. In te rn e t a c ­
ce ss  is o ffe red  in 100 p e rce n t o f the c o lle g e  libraries (u p  from  9 3  p e rce n t in 
1 9 9 9 ), 4 0  p e rce n t o f th e dorm s and  re sid e n ce  halls, 41 p e rc e n t o f  the stud ent 
cen ters, 6 4  p e rce n t o f  the classro om s, and  9 4  p e rce n t o f th e co m p u te r labs.

p a p e r pro d u cts are co n tin u in g  to  in cre ase , and  “w o rld  d em an d  is p ro je cte d  to 
rise b y  50%  o v er the n e x t 20 y e a rs .” So m e o f  th e  indicators m e n tio n e d  in the 
a sso cia tio n ’s an n u al review  are th e 2 0 0  m illion p e rso n al printers sold  o v e r the 
past th ree years and  the new  daily n e w sp ap e rs b ein g  provided  free to subw ay 
riders in m ajor cities.
