She was previ­ ously the library’s collection development li­ brarian and served as interim director since 1999. A n n e Ciliberti has been named director of the David and Lorraine Cheng Library at W il­ liam Paterson University in Wayne, New Je r­ sey. Ciliberti, who had served as acting direc­ tor of the library since September 2000, pre­ viously held the positions o f associate direc­ tor (June-September 2000), head of collec­ tion development (1992-00), associate direc­ tor for reader services (1980-87), head of ref­ erence (1977-80), and reference librarian (1976-77). From 1990 to 1992, Ciliberti served as executive director of the Bergen-Passaic Regional Library Cooperative. She was instru­ mental in the creation of VALE (Virtual Li­ brary Academic Environment), a statewide consortium of 49 institutions o f higher edu­ cation that creates a network of access to shared electronic information resources. Ciliberti received the 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the Col­ lege and University Section of the New Jer­ sey Library Association. Jose-Marie G riffiths has been appointed to the Doreen E. Boyce Chair of Library and In­ formation Science at the University of Pitts­ burgh. Jam es Neal has been appointed vice presi­ dent for information services and university librarian at Columbia University. In addition to his tenure as dean of the Johns Hopkins libraries (1998-01), Sheridan Director of Milton S. Eisenhower Libraiy (1995-01), and dean of the University Libraries at Indiana Univer­ sity (1989-95), Neal has held administrative positions in the libraries at Pennsylvania State, Notre Dame, and the City University of New York. He has represented the American li­ brary community in testimony on copyright matters before congressional committees and was an advisor to the U.S. delegation at the W orld Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) diplomatic conference on copyright. He serves on copyright policy and advisory groups for Johns Hopkins, ALA, Association o f Research Libraries, American Association of Universities, and the International Federa­ tion of Library Associations. Neal also has served on the Council and Executive Board of ALA; was president of the Association of Research Libraries; was chair of OCLC’s Re­ search Library Advisory Council (1997-98); and was selected as ACRL’s Academic Re­ search Librarian of the Year (1997). B ernard F. R eilly Jr. has been appointed president of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) in Chicago. Reilly had been director of research and access at the Chicago Historical Society since 1997. From 1987 to 1997, Reilly was head curator in the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. CRL is an international not-for-profit consortium of colleges, universities, and li­ braries that holds and makes available schol­ arly resources to scholars, students, and other patrons o f its member institutions. N an cy R oderer has been appointed interim director o f the Sheridan Libraries and interim dean of university libraries at Johns Hopkins University. She has been director o f the Johns Hopkins Welch Medical Library since 1999 and will retain that position until the director’s position is filled. Before joining Hopkins, she coordinated the National Library of Medicine’s postgraduate training program for medical li­ brarians. Prior to that, Roderer was director of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library at Yale University.
