D u n l a p has b een ap p o in t­ ed to h ead th e D uke U niversity library system. She w ill succeed re­ tirin g D r. Benjam in Pow ell, librarian at D uke since 1946. Ms. D unlap holds th e bachelor’s and m aster’s degree from th e U n i v e r s i t y of M ichigan in A nn A r­ bor. H e r u n d erg rad ­ u ate w ork was in ge­ ology and geography. She earn ed a m aster’s degree in library sci­ ence in 1952, and C onnie R. D unlap stu d ied at th e U niver­ sity of Paris in th e 1967 sum m er term . She has b een associated w ith the M ichigan lib rary since 1943, w h en she w orked as a stu d en t assistant in th e circulation departm ent. She becam e d e p u ty associate director in 1972. B efore th a t appointm ent, she w as head of the graduate library. At D uke, she w ill b e in charge of Perkins L ibrary on the W est C am pus, and satellite libraries on th e E ast C am pus and in several professional schools. T h e D uke library system has m ore th a n 2 m illion volum es an d ranks am ong th e to p tw en ty in th e nation in size. Ms. D unlap is a m em ber of num erous profes­ sional library organizations an d serves on th e Am erican L ib rary Association Council. She has w ritte n freq u en tly for journals and serves as a consultant for several universities, am ong th em D uke. She has been a consultant to th e L ibrary of Congress since 1972.
