CoOL is the latest creation of Walter Hen­ ry at S tanford U niversity, w h o b e g a n th e electronic “n e w s le tte r” C onservation DistList eight years ago. In addition to the backfile and directory for Cons DistList, CoOL contains doc­ um ents contributed by a num ber of individu­ als and organizations. CoOL is accessible by W orld Wide W eb (WWW), gopher, or WAIS, although not all doc­ um ents are accessible by all three m ethods. Permanent paper list published Ellen McCrady of Abbey Publications has com ­ piled and published a list o f 387 perm anent papers produced in the United States and Can­ ada which, according to their manufacturers, meet the requirem ents of ANSI/NISO Z39.49- Preservation N e w s Jane Hedberg 1992. The list also contains purchasing information and notes the am ount of recy­ cled fiber and post-consum­ er waste in each paper. BookLab opens training center BookLab, a com pany spe­ cializing in fine press edi­ tion binding and library preservation services located in Austin, Texas, has o p en ed a training center for b ook arts and library conservation. The fall schedule includes six w eekend w ork­ sh o p s and four eight-session courses. Each w orkshop or course focuses on a particular topic (e.g., Historical Structures for Bookbind­ ing) and some are intended for a specific audi­ ence (e.g., Conservation Technician Book Re­ pair). AMIGOS distributes PARS and AIC meeting reports The AMIGOS Preservation Service is distribut­ ing summary reports of the preservation-relat­ ed activities at two recent conferences. The other covers sessions held at the American Institute for Con­ servation o f Historic and Artistic W orks’ (AIC) Annual Meeting in June.
