Mrs. Kathleen Sherman has been appoint­
ed acting social sciences reference librarian at 
Illinois State University at Normal.

Robert Sokan is now special collections li­
brarian at Illinois State University at Normal.

Richard F. Staar has assumed the position 
of associate director for library operations at 
the Hoover Institution.

Mrs. Lucille Strauss, chemistry/physics 
librarian at Pennsylvania State University, has 
been invited to become a fellow of the Ameri­
can Institute of Chemists.

Marjorie Stuart joined the staff of the 
Colorado State University libraries as engi­
neering sciences librarian.

Carol Turner was appointed instructor in 
library science and assistant serials acquisitions 
librarian in the Texas A&M University library, 
effective September 1, 1969.

Barbara L. W agner has joined the staff of 
the Colorado State University libraries as cir­
culation librarian.

Carol B. Walker assumed the position of 
instructor and special projects librarian at Mis­
sissippi State University library.

Mrs. Frances Wang has been appointed as 
the first curator of the Asian Studies Collection 
at the Honnold Library in Claremont, Cali­
fornia, effective October 1, 1969. The Hon­
nold Library is the central library serving the 
six Claremont Colleges.

Dennis W endell was appointed instructor 
and cataloger at the Iowa State University li­
brary on September 1.

Oliver J. Werner of Seattle, Washington, 
has joined the staff of Tarlton Law library, 
The University of Texas, as assistant law li­
brarian and instructor of law effective Sep­
tember 1, 1969.

Mildred F. White is now reference special­
ist at Nassau Community College.

Valerie Wilford has been appointed in­
structor in library science at the Illinois State 
University library.

Donald Williams has been appointed li­
brarian II with the general reference interli­
brary borrowing service at the University of 
California, Berkeley.

Mrs. Sue W ilson has been appointed in­
structor in library science and assistant sepa­
rates acquisitions librarian in the Texas A&M 
library, effective September 1, 1969.

W yllis E. Wright has assumed the po­
sition of librarian III in the catalog division of 
Stanford University libraries.

Mrs. Marjorie Zipser has joined the staff 
of the Oberlin College library as catalog li­
brarian.

R E T IR E M E N T S
Lelia Holloway, reference librarian at 

Oberlin College library, has retired.
Eleanor McCann retired August 29 as uni­

versity librarian at Duquesne University, Pitts­
burgh, Pennsylvania.

Virginia C. Smith, catalog librarian, has 
retired from the staff of Oberlin College li­
brary.

Opal Williams, head librarian at the 
East Texas State University library, retired as 
director August 31, 1969, after forty-one years 
of service. ■ ■
