I noticed with great pleasure the addition o f a 

running title on each page of recent issues o f C & R L 
News. This is a w elcom e addition to the form at, es­
pecially valuable since I often photocopy pages to 
share w ith my sta ff and with faculty on campus. 
Please don’t drop this very convenient im prove­

Missing M anuscripts

T o  the Ed itor:
Please alert your readers to the following m ateri­

als which have been missing from the library of K e­
ble C ollege, O xford, since before 1964.

T h e  bulk o f the missing m aterial is the m anu­
script correspondence o f D r. T hom as W ilson (d. 
1 7 8 4 ), th e  son o f th e fam ous T h o m a s W ilso n , 
bishop o f Sodor and M an. T h e correspondence is 
bound in four volumes, three containing letters to 
W ilson and one o f letters from him . No detailed de­
scription o f the correspondence exists but it con­
tains a large num ber o f letters from the Irish a n ti­
deist author John L eland (1 6 9 1 -1 7 6 6 ). It is possible 
that the correspondence also contains m aterial of 
A m erican interest as the Episcopal clergym an W il­
liam  D aw son (1 7 0 5 -1 7 5 2 ) received letters from  
W ilson, who is known from other sources to have 
been interested in Colonial affairs. None o f the 
above items are stamped as belonging to Keble C o l­
lege.

Inform ation about the whereabouts o f any of the

Volunteer E d itor 
Needed

A C R L ’s Bibliograp hic Instruction Section is 
seeking an editor to solicit, select, and prepare 
for p ublication a collection o f approximately 
tw enty essays on the state o f bibliographic in ­
struction in the 80s.

T h e  editor will be assisted by an advisory 
board of A C RL/BIS m em bers. Applicants must 
have some b ibliographic instruction experience 
and strong w riting and editorial abilities. To 
apply send a description of relevant experience

Calls for Applications for 

Fellowships for Advanced Study in 
Library Managem ent

A program  sponsored by the Council on Library 
Resources with the second class beginning Sep­
tem ber 1983 will help prepare m iddle and upper 
level m anagers in large libraries through a full cal­
endar year of academ ic studies. On the com pletion 
of the course of study, Fellows will be awarded a 
Certificate of A dvanced Study. A pplicants will have 
the MS in Library Science degree or equivalent, 
and from  3 to 5 years of m anagem ent experience. 
U p to 8 students may be selected by the faculty who 
will evaluate a statement of academ ic and profes­
sional objectives, the applicant's record of experi­
ence, and perform ance on the GRE (Graduate Rec­
ord Examination).

Up to 5 successful applicants will receive full tui­
tion and a stipend of $8,000. All students admitted 
to the program  will be designated CLR fellows.

tion Section’s Research C om m ittee encourages you 
to take part in ALA’s L ib ra ry  Research Round T a ­
ble (L R R T ) In fo rm atio n  Ex ch an ge S u ite at the 
1983 Annual C onference in Los Angeles.

You will have up to an hour in w hich to m ake a 
30-m in ute presentation o f your work and then re­
spond to  q u estio n s and sug gestio ns from  c o l­
leagues. Since almost any research on inform ation 
search strategy, organization, and retrieval relates 
to inform ation use, bibliographic instruction li­
brarians are urged to either attend or present their 
work.
