Deaths C h arles M arsh all Adam s, librarian em eri­ tus at the University of North Carolina at G reens­ b o ro (UNC-G), a n d p a st-p re s id e n t o f ACRL (1950—1951), d ied D ecem ber 8, 1991, at the age o f 83. Adams received his b ach elo r’s d e ­ gree from A mherst College in 1929 an d w en t o n to obtain his m aster’s degrees in English an d library science from Colum bia University. From 1934 to 1938 he w o rk ed at the N ew York Public Library, then w as assistant to the direc­ to r a n d librarian in charge of special collec­ tions at Colum bia University from 1938 to 1945. In 1945 he becam e director o f the library at UNC-G, resigning in 1969 to b eco m e director o f th e Sinclair Library at the University of H a­ waii, w h ere he served until his retirem ent in 1973- In 1978 h e w as aw ard ed an honorary doctorate in hu m an e letters by UNC-G The author o f m any professional articles and re v ie w s , A d am s w a s a ls o a d is tin g u is h e d bookm an. His collection of the w orks of Randall Jarrell and w riters o f the Southern A ppalachians w ere given to the A mherst College Library. M ay D o m in , form er university archivist at the University o f California, Berkeley, died on February 19 at the age o f 94. D om in received h e r m aster’s in history at UC-Berkeley in 1922, six years after joining the library as a student assistant in the Catalog D epartm ent. She later becam e senior assistant in th e departm ent, then w as ap p o in ted university archivist in 1949 and held th at position until her retirem ent in 1964. After retiring, D ornin co-authored A Pictorial H istory o f the University o f C alifornia and as­ sum ed responsibility for m any articles in The C entennial Record, b o th pub lish ed in 1968. A b b ot F id e lis J a m e s D u n la p , form er li­ brarian an d library director at Saint Leo Col­ lege (SLC) in Florida, died March 25 at the age o f 66. D unlap ea rn e d his MLS in 1957 from Catholic University o f America. After serving as library director at SLC, h e w as ap p o in ted executive vice-president o f the college, w as a m em ber of the B oard o f Trustees, an d becam e fourth A bbot o f Saint Leo A bbey from 1970 to 1985. M argie M ay H elm , form er h ead librarian at W estern K entucky University (WKU), died o n D ecem ber 19, 1991, at th e age o f 97. Helm b eg an her career at WKU in 1920, th en b e ­ cam e h e a d librarian in 1923 and held that posi­ tion until h e r retirem ent in 1965. Active in the profession, she served as p resident of the Ken­ tucky Library A ssociation in 1929, w as o n e of the founders o f the Bowling G reen Public Li­ brary, an d w as a m em ber o f the State B oard for th e Certification o f Librarians from 1938 to 1955. She also contributed scholarly articles to Library Quarterly, Library Journal, and the K en­ tu c k y School Journal. P roud o f her profession, H elm once said, “I believe in reading as a form o f education an d of elim ination o f racial and o th er prejudices. K now ledge o f o ther peoples an d o ther w ays o f life will contribute to a bet­ ter understanding b etw een peoples. I’m pro u d to b e a librarian.” L uella (B eck y ) P o llo ck , form er college li­ brarian at Reed College, Portland, O regon, died March 17. P ollock d irected th e Reed Library from 1957 until h er retirem ent in 1987. She also held positions at the University o f Iow a (1942— 1945) a n d V assar C ollege (1945-1957). She p lan n ed an d directed a 1962 addition to the Reed Library an d w as responsible for m uch o f the planning for th e 1989 addition.
