Lerud-Heck, librarian emeritus at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, is the recipient of the 2020 Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award of the Geoscience Information Society (GSIS). For more than 25 years, until retiring in 2016, Lerud-Heck served as director of the School’s Arthur Lakes Library. Prior to that position, she was director of libraries at the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology. She began her professional career as as- sociate technical information specialist for the Marathon Oil Company. She is a past- president of GSIS and has served on numerous committees including the Mary B. Ansari Best Reference Work Award and the Best Website Selection Committee. She was the first member of GSIS to sit on the AGI Executive Board, where she served as secretary. Lerud-Heck’s impact extended to the larger library community through her extensive service in Al- liance (formerly CARL, Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries), ACRL, SLA, International Association of Technological Research Libraries, and numerous other organizations. Besides her distinguished professional ser- vice, Lerud-Heck has written extensively on mining his- tory and archives and received the 2003 Peter Schmidt Award for her contributions to the cultural heritage of geosciences, mining and metallurgy. Appointments Kerri Goergen-Doll has been appointed interim as- sociate university librarian at Oregon State University (OSU) Libraries and Press. She will continue to pro- vide high-level oversight of the Resource Acquisition and Sharing Department within the library while she is serving in this interim role. Goergen-Doll joined OSU Libraries and Press in 2005 as an on-call refer- ence librarian. In 2008, she took over management of the Inter-Library Loan unit, and in 2012 she became the manager of the Resource Acquisition and Sharing (RAS) unit. At that time, RAS focused on resource sharing and acquisitions. In 2014, she became the Resource Acquisition and Sharing director overseeing acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, col- lection maintenance and resource sharing. Kathleen Schmand is the new dean of Middle Ten- nessee State University’s James E. Walker Library. Schmand had been Northern Arizona University’s director of development and communications since 2006. Schmand obtained her first professional li- brary position at Northern Arizona. She started as a shared resources/document delivery librarian, hold- ing a variety of positions over the years, including interim associate dean. Leslie Gascon, has been named assistant librar- ian, Public Health and collection librarian, at the University of Washington Libraries . Retirement Douglas K. Lehman, director of Thomas Library at Wittenberg University since 2004, retired at the end of August 2020. This is the culmination of a 42-year career as a librarian. Active on the local, state, regional, and national levels, he held offices in the Florida Library Association, served on OCLC Users Council, and various positions with in ACRL, including elected positions in the Community and Junior College Library Section and the College Library Section. He was a past member of the ACRL Board of Directors, where he served as the ACRL Divisional Councilor for a three-year term.
