The grant will be used to support University Library’s initiative in “Partnering to Bridge the Digital Divide: Teaching 21st Century Literacy Skills to Fifth Grade Hispanic Students” and to help implement an information literacy train ing center. Since 2001, the program has intro duced Hispanic students to the technology and information competencies that are critical for lifelong learning in the 21st century. As the program is currently designed, Buhrer’s fifth grade Hispanic students are bused to the Library one Saturday per month for literacy classes and cultural activities that use Univer sity Circle’s museums and cultural institutions. For additional information about the program, go to www.case.edu/UL/REF/Digital/digital. html and click on Buhrer Elementary School. Binghamton University has received a $40,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foun dation to support the “Image of France” project, a documentary database for all prints authorized for commercial distribution in Paris between 1811 and 1880. George McKee, director of the project, began work on the database in 1994, which is currently complete from 1811 to 1830 and is comprised of about 19,000 entries. The grant will allow the work to continue through 1880 and include nearly 100,000 entries document ing almost half a million prints. The project can be found at www.lib.uchicago.edu/efts/ARTFL/proj ects/mckee. The collection spans near ly 60 years and consists of more than 40,000 large format transparencies and negatives. A majority of Muench’s work documents the American Southwest; of particular impor tance are his images of Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon, although there are hundreds of photographs taken from places as wide ranging as Greece and Guatemala. The Cline Library is working to create digi tal access to the collection and is focusing initial efforts on photographs taken on the Colorado Plateau. For a sampling, conduct a search on “Muench” in the Colorado Plateau Digital Archives at www.nau.edu/library /speccoll/. David Bender, internationally known li brarian, former executive director of the Spe cial Libraries Association, and alumnus of the Case School of Information and Library Sci ence has donated his papers to Case Western Reserve University’s Kelvin Smith Library. His papers will prove to be a valuable resource for scholars examining the developments in information science over the last four decades and the implications for future directions. The collection includes letters, speeches, book and journal publications, audiovisual materials, photographs, plaques, awards and certificates. He has established the David R. Bender Fund for Library Staff Development to be used for development activities, which address the educational mission of the library, emphasize fields of specialized librarianship, and study global information issues.  Correction In the April 2004 issue, a photo of Ann J.
