The September issue of the News always 
offers an opportunity to highlight Annual 
Conference and other events, as well as 
the work of the association over the last 
quarter of the year. This issue is no ex­
ception. On pages 473 to 484 you will 
find summaries of 19 programs offered by 
ACRL sections and committees at Annual 
Conference. In total, ACRL gave 24 pro­
grams covering topics from advocacy to 
information literacy to special collections. 
Thanks to all of the contributors for their 
reports! 

In March, 22 academic librarians, includ­
ing ACRL leaders, visited China as part of the 
People to People Ambassador program. The 
purpose of the trip was to exchange ideas for 
the future of academic librarianship on an 
international basis, while strengthening the 
relationship between Chinese and American 
academic institutions. Learn more about the 
trip in the article on page 505. 

If you want to keep up on the work the 
ACRL Board of Directors has been doing, the 
actions from their Annual Conference meet­
ings (page 486) provide a good overview as 
well as some insight into future directions for 
the association. 

At the close of the 2006 Annual Confer­
ence, Pamela Snelson officially stepped into 
the role of 2006–07 ACRL president. In the 
article on page 490, she discusses her focus 
for the year, “Communicating the value 
of academic libraries,” and her support of 
the strategic plan, especially in the area of 
leadership. 

Snelson’s president’s column in C&RL 
News will feature articles from higher edu­
cation administrators, who were formerly 
academic librarians, to help us gain an under­
standing of how libraries can communicate 
their value to offices across campus. The fi rst 
installment in this series will be published in 
the October issue.
