march12b.indd March 2012 163 C&RL News ACRL Board of Directors’ actions, January 2012 Highlights of the Board’s Midwinter meetings During the 2012 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Dallas, Texas, the ACRL Board of Direc- tors met on January 21 and 23 and took the following actions: Value of Academic Libraries Goal: Academic libraries demonstrate alignment with and impact on institutional outcomes. • Approved submission by February 1, 2012, of an IMLS demonstration grant, As- sessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success, for up to $250,000 and authorized staff to complete and submit the grant proposal. Student Learning Goal: Librarians transform student learning, pedagogy, and instructional practices through creative and innovative collaborations. • Confirmed its virtual vote held 8/24/11– 8/31/11, which approved endorsing the New Leadership Alliance for Student Learning and Accountability’s document “Assuring Qual- ity, Accounting for Learning: Guidelines for Gathering and Reporting Evidence of Student Learning and Using It To Improve Outcomes.” • Approved the revised “Characteristics of Programs of Information Literacy that Illustrate Best Practices” and rescinded the previous version of this document. Enabling Programs and Services Goal: Strategic goal areas will be supported by financial and operational planning, and will guide the development and implementation of programs and services that target education, advocacy, and member engagement. • Adopted the revised Division-level Committee structure and transition/disposi- tion plan as detailed at www.ala.org/acrl /sites/ala.org.acrl/files/content/Doc_8.1_Ap- proved_Committee_Structure.pdf. • Created the ACRL Task Force on the Structure for Core Organizational Values with the charge, tasks, deadlines, and membership as detailed at www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl /directoryofleadership/taskforces/tfs. • Approved the revised “ACRL/RBMS Guidelines for Interlibrary and Exhibition Loan of Special Collections Materials” and rescinded the “ACRL Guidelines for Borrowing and Lend- ing Special Collections Materials for Exhibition” (2005) and “ACRL Guidelines for the Interlibrary Loan of Rare and Unique Materials” (2004). • Rescinded outdated portions of Guide to Policies and Procedures—Chapter 10: ACRL Conferences. • Approved the January 10, 2012, Board Conference Call Meeting Minutes. • Confirmed its virtual vote held 11/15/11– 11/22/11, which adopted the 2011–2012 Plan for Excellence Key Performance Indica- tors (KPIs) (see www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl /strategicplan).
