Lee, dean of University Libraries and Peggy V. The honor recognizes Lee’s numerous contributions to higher education within the state. Lee has served as dean of OU University Libraries for more than 30 years. Jungwon Yang has accepted the position of international government information and public policy librarian in the Clark Library at the University of Michigan Library. R e t i r e m e n t s Bente Loj Polites, special collections li- brarian and co-leader of Special and Digital Collections, has retired after 25 years of service to Falvey Memorial Li- brary at Villanova Uni- versity. Polites joined Falvey as a reference l i b r a r i a n a n d t h e n became special col- lections librarian. She also helped implement many of Falvey Memo- rial Library’s Digital Library initiatives. In addition to her role with Special and Digital Collections, Polites became the philosophy subject librarian in Bente Loj Polites 1996 and coordinator of that Humanities liaison team. As part of her responsibilities in this position, she was charged with build- ing a doctoral-level collection with a focus on continental philosophy. Before joining Falvey, Polites worked as a reference librar- ian in Danish public libraries and then as a reference librarian at the European Parlia- ment in Luxemburg for ten years. Cheryl Kern-Simirenko has retired from the University of Akron as dean of university libraries. She began her career in 1979 as Slavic bibliographer at Syracuse University Libraries and moved into management po- sitions there. She also held administrative positions at the Uni- versity of Oregon and Purdue University Li- braries before joining the University of Akron in 2005. D e a t h s Jay K. Lucker, 82, former director of the MIT Libraries and nationally known library build- ing and planning consultant, has died. Lucker started his library career at the New York Public Library in 1954, following service in the U.S. Army. Lucker joined the MIT Libraries in 1975 from Princeton University, where he was associ- ate university librarian. During his 20-year career at MIT, Lucker guided the libraries through the beginning of the transition to many digital library resources and services. While at MIT, Lucker oversaw the award-winning renovation and expansion of MIT’s Rotch Library of Architec- ture and Planning, completed in 1990. He was active in many library organizations and served as board member and president of the Boston Library Consortium, president of the Association of Research Libraries, and as a member of ACRL for 27 years.
