Gloriana St. Clair has stepped down after 15 years as dean of Carnegie Mellon University Libraries. As dean emerita, she remains engaged with the uni- versity as the official liaison to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and director of the Olive Archive for Executable Content. Prior to her appointment at Carnegie Mellon, St. Clair held administrative library posts at Penn State University, Oregon State University, and Texas A&M University. She served as editor for three professional journals (College and Research Libraries, 1990-1996; Journal of Academic Librarianship, 1996-1999; and portal: Libraries and the Academy, 2000-2003). St. Clair was honored as ACRL’s Academic/Research Librarian of the Year in 2009. In 2012, Carnegie Mellon University made her an honorary alumna. Deaths Hans E. Panofsky, 87, curator of the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies at Northwest- ern University (1959 to 1991) and (for two terms) chair of ACRL’s Asian, African and Middle Eastern Section, has died. He also served on the ARL For- eign Acquisitions Committee and was one of the founders of the Cooperative Africana Microform Project at the Center for Research Libraries. Appointments Anne Mackereth has been appointed director of library services at Northwestern Health Sci- ences University. Katie Blank has joined the Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries’ Special Collections and University Archives as electronic records manager. Steve Brantley was appointed associate pro- fessor and head of reference services at the Mary J. Booth Library at Eastern Illinois University. Athena Jackson has accepted the position of associate director of the Special Collections Library at the University of Michigan. Elizabeth McCraw has been named special collections and humanities cataloger at the Uni- versity of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s Wilson Special Collections Library. Mary Rieder has joined the Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries’ Resource Management team as coordinator of acquisition and discovery services. Curtis Small Jr. has been appointed assis- tant librarian in the special collections depart- ment at the University of Delaware Library. Denise Soufi is now Middle Eastern cata- loger at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Library. Steven Van Tuyl has been appointed data services librarian at Carnegie Mellon University. Retirements Thomas “Tom” Arthur Stave has retired after a 34-year career at the University of Oregon Libraries.
