Beth Martin is now head of access ser- vices/assessment coordinator at J. Murrey Atkins Library at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Sarah Pinard has been appointed pro- cessing archivist in the University Archives at the University at Buffalo-SUNY. Bob Price is now assistant university li- brarian for technology and digital scholarship at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte’s J. Murrey Atkins Library. Retirements Judith K. Schwartz, senior director of library services at Trocaire College, has retired. Schwartz has worked for Trocaire College since August 1999. In 2000, she was ap- pointed director of library services, and, in 2010, senior director of library services. Fred Stielow has retired as vice president and dean of libraries at the American Public University System (APUS). He will continue to serve APUS as a scholar-in-residence. Stielow joined the university in 2005 and is credited with building its state-of- the-art virtual library. His electronic course guides initiative has h e l p e d m i n i m i z e textbook costs for students, and he was recognized with innovation awards from IMSGlobal in 2012 and Association for Con- tinuing Higher Education (ACHE) in 2013. His leadership was also instrumental in the April 2011 launch of APUS ePress, a digital publish- ing feature designed to leverage public and Appointments Kathryn Miller has been named Florida Polytechnic University’s first director of li- braries. Miller previously served as university librarian and assistant vice president of aca- demic services at Argosy University, where she was responsible for academic support ser- vices and the university library at 19 campus locations. She also has worked as a librarian at the Detroit Public Library and the West Bloomfield Public Library, both in Michigan. Jacob Nadal is now executive director of the Research Collections and Preservation Consortium (ReCAP), an offsite library shelv- ing facility located in Princeton, New Jersey, jointly owned and operated by Princeton University, Columbia University, and the New York Public Library. Elise L. Torre has been named director of library services at Trocaire College. Torre began her years at Trocaire in 2008, provid- ing assistance at a time when the college had an insufficient number of librarians to serve the needs of its college students, staff, and faculty. In the years since then, Torre moved into a regular, part-time position mid- March of 2010, and then became the full-time electronic resources and services librarian in November of that year. Dane Ward has been named dean of Milner Library at Illinois State University Seangill Peter Bae has been named circulation services director for Princeton University Library. Stielow was selected as one of the top five graduates of the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. Stielow, author of Reinventing the Library for Online Education (ALA, 2014), serves as the ALA representative on the U.S. Commission to UNESCO. Deaths Ellsworth Goodwin, 96, has died. Goodwin’s early library career included positions in the reference department of the Yale University Library and on library staffs at the University of Wyoming and Montana State University. He would later serve as director at Colorado Col- lege, Hofstra University, and the University of Colorado-Bolder. Goodwin was a consultant in the planning of many library buildings, held two architecture awards, and taught planning at the University of Illinois School of Librari- anship. An avid book collector, Goodwin’s collections and papers are housed in the rare book rooms at Hofstra University, University of Tulsa, University of Texas-Austin, and the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa. Mary Ann Jensen, former curator of the Sey- mour Theatre Collection in Firestone Library at Princeton University, has died. In 1964, she was working at the Wisconsin Center for Theatre Research, becoming its acting director in 1965. After joining Princeton in 1966, she published numerous articles in the Library Chronicle and curated 11 exhibitions (the most memorable of which was “Oscar Wilde: A Writer for the Nineties” in 1995). Jensen was editor of the American Society for Theatre Research Newsletter (1968–72) and president of the Theatre Library Association (1985–91). She retired in 2000. Paula Morgan, 79, former music librarian at the Princeton University Mendel Music Library, has died. Morgan joined Princeton as music librarian in September 1964 and retired in July 2000 after 36 years at the library. Dur- ing her tenure, the Music Library moved to the Mendel Music Library in the Woolworth Center, which consolidated the Music Col- lection and the Music Listening Library. In her professional life, Morgan was an active member of the Music Library Association. She wrote approximately 150 articles for the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, first edition (1980), and revised and updated most of them and added some new articles for the second edition (2000). A musician in her own right, Morgan was a singer and played the clarinet and piano. After retiring, Morgan served as a volunteer librarian in the Archives of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey. Helen Naomi Taliaferro, 92, has died. In 1982, Taliaferro became chief of the reader ser- vices division at the Maxwell Air Force Base’s Air University Library in Montgomery, Ala- bama. She has previously worked at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, where she served for many years as command librarian for the U. S. Air Force Military Airlift Command, with bases and libraries spread around the world. Taliaferro retired in February 1994, but by then she had embarked on a new career as a fiscal supporter of advanced library education for students at her alma mater Texas Woman’s University (TWU). By 1996, she had donated more than $12,000 for scholarships, and, in 2008, the school announced that her estate had established the Helen Naomi Taliaferro Library Science Scholarship Endowment Fund within the TWU Foundation.
