june14_b.indd C&RL News June 2014 340 Karen A. Williams, dean of university libraries at the University of Arizona, is the 77th president of ACRL. “I feel especially lucky that my year as president will include both an ACRL con- ference and the 75th anniversary of our association. I hope to see many of you in Portland in March 2015 for the ACRL 2015 conference, which carries the theme ‘Creating Sustainable Community.’ This theme recognizes that higher education is an ecosystem forever in flux, with the pace of change increasing in response to power- ful forces in our surrounding environment. These changes include an increased under- standing of how students learn, evolving research methods, and changing practices in how scholars communicate and dissemi- nate their research and creative work—all of which are heavily influenced by new and rapidly changing technologies. In response to these changes, librarians and library staff are inventing new and innovative roles for us, both within our institutions and, increas- ingly, across institutions and with others, such as publishers and higher education as- sociations. Radical collaborations will afford us the most creative outlets. ACRL 2015 will offer more than 300 programs and unlimited networking opportunities. Check out the website (http://conference.acrl.org/) to see what your colleagues have said about the value of previous conferences, to submit a proposal, or to check out the scholarships. “The ACRL 75th Anniversary Celebration Task Force has been hard at work for some time now, planning a variety of opportuni- ties to celebrate the past and envision the future. Among these activities are a special anniversary edition of C&RL, a report on the future of academic librarianship, and pro- grams at both ACRL 2015 and the 2015 ALA Annual Conference. The 2015 ACRL Presi- dent’s Program will look forward, focusing on the theme of new roles and new work. “I also look forward to working with our three goal area committees (the value of academic libraries, student learning, and research and the scholarly environment), as well as the many other committees, task forces, and working groups that carry out the critical work of ACRL through member involvement with strong staff support. “I’m excited about working with you as we launch the next 75 years of ACRL!” As president, Williams will preside over the ACRL Board of Directors and ACRL Ex- ecutive Committee, and plan ACRL’s major And the winners are . . .
