crln-20282	Library Association, American	ACRL Board of Directors’ actions, June 1998	1998	7	.pdf	application/pdf	3254	80	36	Academic or Research Librarian of the Year Award Resolution WHEREAS, the Association o f College and Research Libraries has for twenty years been privileged to present the Academic or Research Librarian o f the Year Award to recognize indi­ viduals who have made outstanding contribu­ tions to the field o f academic librarianship; and WHEREAS, the Association has been enabled to present the Academic or Research Librarian o f the Year Award through the generous finan­ cial support and encouragement o f Baker & Taylor Books; and WHEREAS, the Academic or Research Li­ brarian o f the Year Award is presented annu­ ally in recognition o f a record o f accomplish­ ment and contribution to the profession through scholarly research, and positively influencing the practice as well as the evolution and im­ provement o f academic librarianship generally, THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Board o f Directors o f the Association o f College and Research Libraries commemorate the twenti­ eth anniversary o f the presentation o f the Aca­ demic or Research Librarian o f the Year Award by adopting this resolution commending the foresight and wisdom o f former members o f this Board in developing and presenting said award; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board o f Directors bring to the attention o f the mem­ bers o f the Association the names o f all o f those w ho have been recipients o f this Award since its institution, the names o f whom the Secre­ tary o f the Association is directed to attach to and publish with all copies and publications made o f this Resolution; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board commends, and expresses its sincere apprecia­ tion to Baker & Taylor Books for its constant and generous financial support and sponsorship o f this Academic or Research Librarian o f the Year Award over the twenty years in which the award has been presented, as well as for its long-term dedication to and support o f the profession o f academic librarianship; and DISPOSITION OF THE RESOLUTION: cop­ ies o f this Resolution shall be sent to each living recipient o f the Academic or Research Librarian o f the Year Award and to Baker & Taylor Books, and that this Resolution be published in College & Research Library News. Resolution honoring Joseph A. Boissé on his retirement WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Boissé has recently an­ nounced his retirement as University Librarian at the University o f California, Santa Barbara, where he has served since 1983; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boissé has had a distinguished career as a librarian and administrator at Santa Barbara, the University o f Wisconsin Parkside, and at Temple University, was responsible for the ac­ quisition o f many major collections, the initiation o f many innovations in electronic information ser­ vices, and establishment o f the first minority li­ brary fellowship in North America; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boissé has been an outstand­ ing leader in the Association o f College and Re­ search Libraries, serving as its President, National Conference Chair, and Chair o f the first ACRL Col­ leagues Committee; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boissé has also been highly active within the American Library Association overall, serving as a member o f Council, chairing the Intellectual Freedom Committee, and holding other important offices; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boissé was named as ACRL’s Academic or Research Librarian o f the Year in 1994-95, in recognition o f his outstanding contri­ butions to the profession o f academic librarian­ ship; THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Associa­ tion o f College and Research Libraries hereby awards Dr. Joseph Boissé the status o f permanent honorary member, in appreciation o f and in rec­ ognition o f his many contributions to the associa­ tion and the profession during his distinguished career, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the board and the membership o f the association wish Dr. Boissé much good health and happiness during his re­ tirement.
